SPRING TIME CONDITIONS ATTRACT TOP RIDERS TO THE 4STAR ABSOLUT PARK SPRING BATTLE
Flachauwinkl, Austria – March 30th 2010: Running for eight years, one of the most beloved European springtime slopestly snowboarding events is about to take over the Absolute Park in Flachauwinkl in Austria. The 4Star Spring Battle attracts not only lovers of the sun, but also a top level riders line up. Throughout the winter amateurs have been able to qualify to ride at the Spring Battle and they will have to put on their best show as there will be some top riders to beat. Current TTR World No. 15 Seppe Smits (BEL) will be on site and with his recent 4th place at the 6Star Oakley Arctic Challenge slopestyle and 4th at 6Star O'Neill Evolution slopestyle he is a contender who has been growing stronger throughout the season and one of the top candidates for the win. Ville Uotila (FIN), current World No. 17 who last weekend took home the title at the 4Star Grandvalira Total Fight in Andorra and came 4th in the Burton European Open slopestyle this season is a contender to watch out for as well as rookie Matti Kinnunen (FIN) who now sits in World No. 35 and who took home the 4Star Stomp It title in Italy in the beginning of this season. Other riders include Kevin Backström (SWE) as well as the local favourites Marc Swoboda, Werni Stock, Herby Thaler, Flo Mauser, and Michi `Stani` Stanschitz.
Head shaper Seppi Harml and his motivated crew have once again spent countless hours building an extraordinary end section and a perfect set up. So saddle up and head over to check out the cowboys in action and witness a guaranteed first-class contest, as well as enjoy the spring time chillout at the Absolut Park.
VILLE UOTILE WINS GRANDVALIRA TOTAL FIGHT MASTERS OF FREESTYLE IN ANDORRA THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR
Andorra – March 27th, 2010: Once again the heat was on in the El Tarter snowpark for the 6th edition of the now legendary 4Star Grandvalira Total Fight Masters of Freestyle. Under bright blue skies, Finnish rider Ville Uotila pulled off his fantastic victory with a Switch backside double Cork 12 in his last round in the big air line, making him this year’s master of the fight. Over the course of two days, riders from all over Europe (Finland, Spain, Andorra, France, Sweden and Austria) dominated the slopestyle with an astounding display of style and double corks. Uotila, who remained World No. 17 on the Swatch TTR world ranking list, was accompanied on the podium by Ulrik Badertscher (NOR) in second place and Victor De Le Rue (FRA) in third place.
Thanks to the hard work of the Coliflor Freestyle team of shapers over the last weeks the El Tarter park saw some of the most spectacular lines ever. For this year’s competition, riders had a choice of three varied lines; the first line consisted of two jumps followed by a roller and finished by a step up step down kicker, which included a box rail. For those fans of rails, the second line started with a 20 step rail, followed by two 15 meter jumps and finished off with the step up step down. The third and by far most popular line, started with a 20 metre big air, which gave riders plenty of time and pop to pull off their most impressive tricks. This line was finished by a gap to transfer and the step up step down.
Ville Uotila described his third victory as amazing but his biggest achievement was pulling off the switch backside double cork 12, a trick he’d never tried before and which he landed to perfection. In fact, Uotila was heading for second place behind fellow Scandinavian Ulrik Badertscher before he decided to try the trick that won the competition. After a tight battle between Badertscher, De le Rue and Uotila all through the competition, it was Uotila shortkly before the end who confidently approached the Big Air and pulled off a switch backside double cork 12, landing perfectly and sealing his victory for the third consecutive year. This year, the winners of the Total Fight Masters of Freestyle shared a total prize purse of 25.000 Euro between them.
