From Enthusiast to Expert: Master the Art of Snowboard Judging

 Judging is more than just giving a score—it is about understanding the language of snowboarding.

The World Snowboard Federation’s Judge Education program is designed for everyone. You don’t have to be behind the scoring desk to benefit from this knowledge. We invite riders, parents, coaches, and media to explore our free learning materials to gain a deeper understanding of trick definitions, progression, and what really counts in a competition runs.

For those ready to take an official role, we offer a clear pathway to becoming a certified WSF Judge.


Who is this for?

1. For Aspiring Judges (The Certification Path)

Do you have a keen eye for detail and a passion for fair play? We need you!

  • What you get: A comprehensive training on the WSF Academy platform, covering rules, trick recognition, and scoring criteria.
  • The Goal: Earn your C-Level License to judge regional and national events.
  • The Cost:
    • Female Judges: FREE. We are committed to increasing diversity in the judging booth. Email us at judging@worldsnowboardfederation.org to request your free access code.
    • Male Judges: Fee-based certification. However, you can obtain a pre-paid voucher from your National Snowboard Association (NSA) or National Judge Director to waive the fee.

2. For Coaches, Parents & Media (The Education Path)

Snowboarding happens fast. Knowing how a run is analyzed can change the way you watch and support the sport.

  • Coaches: Understand exactly what judges are looking for to better prepare your athletes.
  • Parents: Learn the terminology and criteria to follow your child’s progression with confidence.
  • Media: Report with accuracy by mastering the technical details of the sport.
  • The Cost: 100% FREE. You can access all learning materials and video examples on the WSF Academy without paying for a license.

How to Get Certified

Follow these steps to earn your official WSF Judge License.

Step 1: The Online Course (Theory) Register on the WSF Academy. Do the basics and training course. For certification do join the Certification Cuurse.

  • Note: If you are judging, this is where you will need your voucher or payment.

Step 2: The Clinic (Practice) Theory is just the beginning. To validate your license, you must attend an official Judge Clinic. These are interactive sessions where you will practice live scoring and discuss real scenarios with experienced WSF Head Judges.

  • Clinics are available both Online and In-Person.

Step 3: Get Licensed Once you pass the clinic, you will receive your official WSF Judge License, allowing you to judge competitions worldwide.
