Youth Development & Competitive Pathways

The World Snowboard Federation (WSF) is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of riders. By providing a sustainable ranking infrastructure and a safe, creative environment, we ensure that young snowboarders have a clear, globally recognized path from their first local competition to the professional world stage.

1. Youth Competitive Programs: The Foundation

WSF promotes snowboarding as a journey of individual growth. Our programs are designed to be the entry point for competitive snowboarding, helping young athletes find their strengths through creativity and fun while maintaining a professional standard of safety.

  • Sustainable Progression: We provide the framework for national associations to move riders from grassroots events into the international ranking systems.
  • Athlete Pathway: By aligning our programs with the global athlete pathway, we ensure no talent is left behind, regardless of whether they are part of a national federation or an independent club.

2. The World Snowboard Points List (WSPL)

The WSPL is the single, unified world ranking list for snowboarding, managed through a collaborative effort between the WSF and FIS. It is the most authentic representation of freestyle snowboard athletes globally.

  • Universal Ranking: The WSPL covers Halfpipe, Slopestyle, and Big Air for both men and women.
  • How it Works: A rider’s position is determined by the average of their three best results within a rolling 52-week period.
  • Frequent Updates: Rankings are calculated and published every Monday and Thursday (6:00 AM PST / 3:00 PM CET), ensuring athletes and fans always have the most current data.
  • Inclusivity: The WSPL is the primary tool for non-FIS riders to measure themselves against the world’s best, providing a transparent and fair comparison across all international events.

3. The World Rookie Rank (WRR)

The World Rookie Rank is a specialized classification for riders aged 18 and under. Developed in partnership with the World Rookie Tour (WRT), this rank is the ultimate launchpad for youth talent.

  • The Path to Pro: Top-ranked riders qualify for the World Rookie Finals. Winners are crowned World Rookie Champions and receive exclusive invitations to professional filming sessions and elite-level events.
  • Bridging the Gap: The WRR collects results from the best youth events worldwide, giving young riders a global stage to build their “Rookie to Pro” resume.
  • Brand & Network: By participating in WRR-sanctioned events, athletes join a global network of over 30 nations, gaining visibility with sponsors and professional teams.

4. Event & Result Submission

We provide organizers with a streamlined platform to get their events recognized globally. Whether you are hosting a local grassroots contest or a national championship, our system ensures your riders get the credit they deserve.

  • Calendar Integration: Submit your dates to the World Snowboarding Event Schedule.
  • Double Sanctioning: Leverage the WSF to get your event on the WSPL and the World Rookie Rank simultaneously.
  • Non-FIS Opportunities: We offer a qualification pathway for non-FIS events, allowing organizers to offer professional ranking points for a nominal fee.
