2017 World Rookie Finals – Slopestyle Qualifications Boys

After several days with challenging weather conditions, the sun shined at its brightest on Saturday’s Slopestyle qualifications for the boys.

87 young shredders hit the Snowpark Kitzsteinhorn to battle it out for the rare and high desired spots in the finals. Among the 30 rookies, who scored highest and secured their final spots, Minsik Lee from South Korea performed best by throwing a Frontside Double Cork 10 Indy to a Backside Double Cork 10 Mute over the kickers.

The Rookies stomped many more Double Corks – and for example Zeke Oppegaard (USA) impressed the judges with a Backside 10 Nose. Worth mentioning was also Wolf Casper’s (NED) super smooth Cab 9 Indy.

The high level of riding and creativity of the tricks promises an awesome show for Sunday’s finals where the World Rookie Champions in both Slopestyle and Halfpipe will be determined.

2017 World Rookie Finals – Slopestyle Qualifications Girls

On the first contest day of the 2017 World Rookie Finals, the weather played tricks – changing steadily between thick fog which made it impossible to see one’s own hand and wonderful bluebird sky. However, the World Rookie crew and Kitzsteinhorn park team set the perfect conditions for the 27 female Slopestyle riders who fought for their spots in the finals.

2

12 girls advanced in the Slopestyle qualifications

Japanese super talent Kokomo Murase, who is only 12 years old, lead the girls squat after sending a Backside 360 Mute and a Frontside 720 Frontside Grab over the two kickers and showing off with crazy skills on the rails.

The top twelve females will be able to show their skills on the mountain once more in the Slopestyle finals on Sunday and shred for the title of the World Rookie Champion 2017.

All results from the girls Slopestyle qualifications, can be downloaded here.

3

Boys Slopestyle qualifications on Friday, Halfpipe contest on Saturday

Thursday will be marked as training day for all riders. If the weather allows, the Halfpipe day, including qualifications and finals for both girls and boys, is scheduled for Friday. Tboys Slopestyle qualifications will go down Saturday. Changes might appear. Stay tuned for updates on the World Rookie Tour channels.

Mons Røisland and Henna Ikola crowned as 2015 WSF World Rookie Champions

Once again, the Black Yeti proved that the future snowboard pros are just around the corner. During the 2015 Völkl World Rookie Finals the best 107 young riders from all over the world showcased their talent in the latest  World Snowboard Tour Slopestyle competition of the season. The young guns had something impressive in their bags of tricks and took care for some solid entertainment in the Ischgl Snowpark with their 3 runs each.

He then hit the rails with a Tail 270 out and a Frontside 180 Switch Backside 360 Out.  Mons is taking home the title as WSF World Rookie Champion 2015 and a wild card for the Air & Style. With his needless first run, the 18-years-old outdid his team mate Fridtjof Tischendorf (NOR) and Swiss rider Dario Burch who filled the other podium spots in the male Rookie category.

Stian Kleivdal from Norway stood out with a super stylish and very nicely executed run which placed him as best rider of the day. The 17-years-old ripper threw out a Switch Double Bs 1080 on the first kicker and hit the second one with a Cab Double 900. On the canon rail, Stian performed a 50-50 Backflip Out with much style and left the jib area with a Frontside Boardslide and a Frontside Hardway 270.

Qualification Day 1 at the 2015 Völkl World Rookie Finals

During the first qualification day of the 2015 Völkl World Rookie Finals, all the girls and the Grom boys battled for their entries into the super finals taking place on Saturday 11th of April at Ischgl Snowpark.

In two heats the riders proved their talent – the best run counts for the ranking.

Among the 15 Rookie girls, Henna Ikola from Finland laid down the best run linking a bs3, fs3 mute, a 50-50 melon off the canon rail and  finishing off with a boardslide and a 50-50 180 on the rails and qualified for the super finals together with seven other Rookie girls.

Ten girls started in the Grom class – but only six could secure their spot in the finals. 9-years-old (!!!) Kokomo Murase from Japan showcased an outstanding performance as best Grom girl of the day with a bs7 and a tail grab on the two kickers, a 50-50 Indy off the canon rail followed by a 50-50 and a nose slide on the rails.

On the boys’ side, Dutch rider Casper Wolf left 28 other Grom boys behind him by landing a bs7+ on the first jump and a fs7+ on the second kicker and a backflip out of the canon rail. He then jibbed out of the rail area with a 50-50 360 off and a 270 tail blunt. In total, 12 Grom boys will join the super finals.

On the second qualification, Friday 10th of April, the Rookie boys have the chance to secure their tickets to the super finals.

The competition is classified as a World Snowboard Tour National Level event, securing high quality of competition for the best riders from all over the world aged younger than 18.
