Pouring rain all day long – but GummiLove Banked Slalom Stoos was a big success

105 registrations (80 the year before) and 70 participants, the same number as the year before, ignored the really bad weather and celebrated snowboarding at it’s best in Stoos, the heart of Switzerland.

gummi-1

Daniel „Gummi“ Rietmann also didn’t care about the conditions and showed his happy face: „The set-up was extraordinary. I am sorry for the bad weather but that one definitely is not on us. We’re happy we could guarantee two nice runs for everyone. My respect goes out to the crew of Shredisfaction Snowpark Stoos and all the other volunteers. Everything went very well. Great job!

gummi-2

Happy faces everywhere
Beni Plüss, speaker and host from Shredisfaction still can’t find any words: „This is just amazing. We expected maybe around 10 freaks at the Klingenstock today. But 70 riders came here to participate. Unbelievable! That spirit you can only find in freestyle sports like snowboarding. This is very unique and the result was definetly worth the work.

gummi-5

Purtschert wins again
In the mens and girls categories the same riders as the year before were on top of the podium. Nadja Purtschert won with a fast 2nd run and Kilian Wiget was again fast as hell. Till Baechler grabbed the victory in his field of younger men (18-30). The fastest rookie at the GummiLove Banked Slalom was Julian Furrer, but the bravest of all was Neo: that little 7-year-old fellow accepted the weather and the challenge like a pro.Photo Credits: Patrick Graf

Beaver Valley Banked Slalom, Canada

Building on four successful years as one of Canada’s largest annual snowboard gatherings, the 2017 edition of the Beaver Valley Banked Slalom promises to be the best yet!

BV - 33x46

While it may be one of the leading North American stops on the World Banked Slalom Tour, the Beaver Valley Banked Slalom is a laid back, super cool contest that celebrates snowboard culture like few others while raising thousands of dollars for Leukemia Research in memory of Beaver Valley snowboarder Jackie Snarr.

The Beaver Valley Banked Slalom is truly one of the only events in Canada where you will find shred “legends” from park, pipe, boardercross and race riding together and alongside the best “groms” and industry icons.

_bv_banked_slalom_2016_jason_herbert_sj_lo

Where a shred legend will kick your ass riding a 20 year old retro board. And where staff from your local shop compete against staff from your local park.

Where the rider drinking a “Mad Jack” beer next to you on the deck at the afternoon apres might be the Team Manager of one of the biggest companies in snowboarding. Where kids compete against their dads and moms. Where the “ski” racks at the base lodge are 100% filled with snowboards!

Where there are more people riding Beaver Valley’s awesome park runs than it’s groomed trails. Where the afternoon bbq, beers and bands are more important than the awards ceremony!

_bv_banked_slalom_2016_mathew_robb_sj_lo

You can expect something new and cool every year at the Beaver Valley Banked Slalom. This year look for a fun Hip Jump session, Burton Riglet Park for the mini-shreds, Carve of Day contest, Puddle Jump and Jibs galore in the Park! Live bands on the snow featuring the “Foremast Jacks”!

_bv_banked_slalom_2016_live_band_sj_lo

WST End of Season Showdown – Latest WSPL Changes

We’re coming out of back-to-back Elite events Burton US Open and X Games Norway where riders threw down and competed for WSPL points in Halfpipe, Slopestyle and Big Air.
sven
Now the season-end showdown is on. With 3 WST accredited events (Grandvalira Total Fight, Spring Battle & PSA Asia Grand Championships) still coming up and 2 non-WST accredited FIS events (Sierra Nevada World Championships & Spindleruv Mlyn World Cup) also counting towards the WSPL ranking, riders are feeling the pressure to collect last minute ranking points. Let’s look at the latest WSPL ranking changes.

SS – ANNA GASSER COMFORTABLY IN FIRST PLACE
Nobody seems to be able to knock Anna Gasser (AUT) of the top spot on the Slopestyle ranking. Anna has a comfortable lead after her wins at Burton US Open and X Games Norway, compared to 19-year old Julia Marino (USA) in 2nd place and Jamie Anderson (USA) in 3rd place.

Mark McMorris (CAN) is undoubtedly still the world’s best Slopestyle rider. He is sitting in 1st place on the Slopestyle ranking after he took home the win at the Burton US Open. Sven Thorgren (SWE) has moved up 2 spots into 2nd place after his win at X Games Norway, followed by Max Parrot (CAN) in 3rd.

HP – SCOTTY JAMES AHEAD OF SHAUN WHITE
The man from down under is still all the way at the top. Even though Shaun White (USA) won the Burton US Open, Scotty James‘ (AUS) 2nd place at US Open was enough to keep him in 1st place on the Halfpipe ranking. Will Scotty be able to stay in 1st when Shaun is right on his heels in 2nd place? Chase Josey (USA) who launched onto the scene this year sits in 3rd place.

Also benefiting from a win at the Burton US Open is Chloe Kim (USA) who has been dominating the top spot on the Halfpipe ranking now for a while. Heavy hitter Kelly Clark (USA) is right behind her in 2nd place. Noteworthy is Elizabeth Hosking‘s (CAN) move into 30th place. She is now considered one of the top 30 female Halfpipe riders in the world. Not bad for 15-years old…

BA – NORWEGIANS MOVE UP THE RANKS
Leveraging his 3rd place at X Games Norway, Torgeir Bergrem (NOR) is now the 2nd Norwegian in the top 10 on the Big Air ranking. Torgeir moved up 5 spots into 9th place. Marcus Kleveland (NOR) sits in in 3rd place behind Marc McMorris (CAN) in 2nd and Max Parrot (CAN) in 1st.

Silje Norendal (NOR) took the win on home turf at X Games Norway and moved up 19 spots into 15th place. Hailey Langland (USA) remains in 2nd and Katie Ormerod (GBR) in 3rd.

MOVER-AND-SHAKER
Natsuki Sato (JPN) is now in the top 50 after moving up 27 spots into 41st place on the Womens Slopestyle ranking.

UPCOMING EVENTS
We continue with the Elite Spring Battle and Grandvalira Total Fight as well as the International PSA Asia Grand Championship.
