Cappuccino Club Charity Banked Slalom, Where Legends are Re-Born!

While thinking up a short-and-catchy headline for this contest report, I was debating as to whether or not it would be appropriate to write what you would usually read here: “Cappuccino Club Charity Banked Slalom WAS A BLAST!“ But can one still use the term ‘blast’ in these times of terrorist atrocities and exploding airports in Europe?

DSC_8724_Turn-Chris-Posch

It’s about time to give back some positive affirmation back to the BLAST! This Banked Slalom was a blast of joy. A blast of sunshine. A blast of adrenaline on the course and a blast of good vibes in the finishing area! Boom! Take that!

This typifies what Cappuccino Club has excelled at since day one; viewing issues  through a larger lens. The drive to do some good in the world combined with the love for the snowboarding scene, its people and our clubs bond that makes projects like this a success within our community.

Over the weekend I saw many smiling faces, heard lots of positive feedback and experienced over a hundred shredders being stoked by our self-built racetrack. And when your teenage-hero Harry Putz gives you advice for the final course correction and Sani Alibabic grabs a shovel to give a finishing touch to a tricky passage, then something is definitely going right.

To finish from my side, we end with the words of Austrian Snowboard Legend and this year’s overall winner, Harry Putz: „Dear Cappuccino Club, that’s exactly what the snowboard community needs: having a great time together. The course was amazing, thanx to the shapers and the warm weather. See you in 2017!

Chief organizer Chris Posch summarizes:
Cappuccinos were motivated again this year setting up a nice and demanding course at the left hand side of Kühtai’s KPark. A demanding technical double S – nicknamed “waterfall” – followed by the steeper and quite fast 5 finishing banks grew into the hearts of local legends like Mitch Tölderer, Harry Putz as well as Conny and Manu Bernert. “We wanted to start 10:30 as we had more than 100 starters to get through two runs, but it was still pretty gnarly hard,” race-director Klaus Zopf stated concerned for the riders. “So we waited for the slushy soft snow predicted later on. 11:15 the first starter hit the banks. Slushy snow was spraying all day long and people were happy chilling and grilling it in the finishing area. Respect came up among the riders when legend Harry Putz exploded in the first round on a 168 cm long machine showing the fastest run in round 1 with 1min 15sec.

GummiLove Banked Slalom Stoos 2016

On March 19, 2016 the GummiLove Banked Slalom on Mt. Stoos went back to the roots, with a competition in the original snowboard discipline. Though a friendly coming together of the snowboard scene, rather than competition, was at the forefront, the participants delivered a fantastic head to head race. 91 participants made their way to Mt. Stoos, in central Switzerland, to take part.

Though the majority of participants were locals, many others from other areas of Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Canada, and Finland were also present. The atmosphere on the Klingenstock couldn’t have been better. The boarders and spectators were greeted with perfect weather, cold drinks and good food while enjoying this unique spectacle of snowboarding. The hard work and preparation of Stoos, Shredisfaction Snowpark, We are Zrcl and the 3sixty shop Schwyz was worth it. A perfect course was made, and despite a few technical challenges, the event went off without a hitch.

Daniel „Gummi“ Rietmann from GummiLove, who brought this event to his home mountain, was very pleased with numerous positive feedbacks and commented “As the first GummiLove Banked Slalom it was a very successful event exceeding my expectations. A great team with a strong passion for snowboarding contributed significantly to the event. I look forward to next year.” After a great run and overall victory Kilian Wiget, from the Canton Schwyz, has something to celebrate. Kilian, competing in the category Men over 30 was followed by Nicholas Wolken (2nd place) and Daniel „Gummi“ Rietmann (3rd place).

At the after party, in Gaswerk Seewen, the celebration continued and the dance floor shook with the beats of the Goldfinger Brothers and Dj Set Hibou.

Great success for the Sudden Rush Banked Slalom LAAX 2016

This weekend the Sudden Rush Banked Slalom LAAX 2016 went down in LAAX, Switzerland, for the second time. Hosted by Nicolas Müller and Terje Haakonsen this special event brought together snowboarders of all generations and different riding styles conjuring a smile on hundred’s faces.
The shapers had prepared a challenging course nearby Crap Masegn for 251 participating riders coming from ten countries, three continents, aged between 6 and 60. Current park riders met boardercross-, slalom- and halfpipe-champs from the last millennium, juniors wowed the pros, and freeriders turned out as speed experts. Deep of winter for the adults’ race on Saturday was followed by bluebird on Sunday for the juniors and fakie part. Beside the competitions LAAX offered a perfect powder world to all of them.

Flags in red and blue amid the big big white – that was the “tricolor-view” for the 211 registered competitors, who – despite the heavy weather circumstances with nonstop snowfall on Saturday – were ready in the start-gates for the one and counting run and for this challenge in a real banked course. Right-left, left-right, pushing from one banked turn to the other, keeping the orientation, feeling the flow and finally, after 39 gates, passing the finish line. Passion and competitive spirit were mixed with fun and style. To name only a few, there was the easy going style by Jose Fernandes (Super Masters), the dancing around the gates style with Peter Bauer (Grand Masters), the fashion style by PI Pascal Imhof (Masters) and the team spirit style by the Snowpark LAAX and Pleasure Mag crew. Using every single turn to speed up the course, the performance was perfected by Terje Haakonsen, Paul Lambersens and Stephan Maurer, the podium of the Pro men category. For two snowflakes – 8/100 in time – Nicolas Müller missed the podium. Fastest woman of the day was the Open women winner Jirene Zimmermann, in the men’s category it was legendary Mr Haakonsen. The great come-together of ragtag riders was complemented with live-music, entertainment and culinary specialities in the rocksresort and Indy bar.

A new day, a new view: Sunday was an amazing sunny day offering totally different conditions. 40 junior riders made use of the faster course and the perfect visibility as the 34 fakie race competitors did. The switch version of the Banked Slalom was won by Elias Elhardt, seeing finally the event host and initiator Nicolas Müller (3.) on the podium. Big hands especially for the kids, who adopted this snowboarding discipline from the beginning times of the sport and brought it from ancient to modern ages. Two of the six junior titles were won by LAAX locals, Siria Poltera (Young Kids Girls) and Nick Pünter (Boys).

The Sudden Rush Banked Slalom LAAX 2016 turned out to be what was promised: a weekend filled with powder, sun, speed and fun, an event made by snowboarders for snowboarders, a happening with the magic vibe of LAAX, of its mountains, crew and guests. Happy faces all over the resort. LAAXroots.
