Korean junior instructor at WSF clinincs 2005

WSFs goal is to develop the best head instructors and the best snowboard education system in the world and now we want our member countries to join our education system.
We know that a lot of countries have well established education systems and have no room for changes.
Therefore we first want to get in contact with the countries that don’t have any instructor education system or want help on their existing education.
We also want to get in contact with the people that have experience with instructor education and want to educate WSF instructor in their own country.
WSF invite you to come to our head instructor course in Oslo Norway, 2nd to 4th of February 2007.
It is also possible to get a WSF head instructor to come to your country and educate level 1 instructors with help from the national association. Please contact Stian about this.

Stian Linnes, WSF head education committee, looking for snow!

WSF offer
Head instructor courses:
WSF and KSBA (Korean snowboard association) have worked together with educating head instructors and we have educated around 20 official WSF Korean head instructors. Today there are less than 30 official head instructors for WSF world wide.
The head instructor educates level 1 instructors:
20 hours.
Manual and program finished.

Instructor courses level 1:
WSF does not teach people to snowboard, but we educate people who can instruct others. Relatively good snowboarding skills plus the ability to teach are required.
The certification gives theoretical and practical knowledge to instruct beginners. By beginners we mean people without any practical knowledge to speak of when it comes to snowboarding.
The instructor can give beginners basic instruction in turning techniques, falling techniques and knowledge of how to use the ski lift. We will also cover basic jumping and turning techniques, plus a simple introduction to instruction of children.
20 hours.
Manual and program finished.

Instructor courses level 2:
HP basic, kicker basic, rail basic and more.
20 hours.
Manual and program not finished yet.

Snowboard D Day 2006

If Santa Claus, while preparing his sleigh, was watching us from the sky, on this Sunday, December 17, he would have discovered an entertaining show: many European snow resorts celebrating the Snowboard D-Day.

Martin Cernick in freeride by Ducasse pictures

While the Swiss were enjoying their famous «raclette party», the Italian more motivated than ever, were performing snowboard tricks on their favorite DJ sound. On the upper North side, the Norwegian riders were welcoming the general public in one of their biggest resort. Not too far away from East Europe, the Austrians were amazed to have their lift tickets at the kids price whatever their boots size. To celebrate this initiative, they alternated jib and jam sessions until the end of the night. On the German side, riders hurtled down the slopes with the new season snowboard equipment before having a rest and a free lunch at the mountain top restaurant. During that time, the Slovakians spent their time downtown between rail sessions and parties in night clubs.

In La Mongie, France, Mathieu Crepel, the TTR World Champion 2006 and ambassador of the Snowboard D-Day had planed a session with his friend Paul Henri De Le Rue and the Pyreneans riders to try to beat the world record for the longest handrail ever grinded. The riders surpassed themselves to reach the former record of 39.50 meters. Finally, Paul Henri, bronze medal in boardercross in the Olympic Games of Turin, broke the world record with a ride of 46.50 meters long in front of an over-excited crowd.

Everywhere in Europe, snowboard addicts and beginners were spending a great and sensational day. We would like to thanks all our partners who trusted in this fantastic adventure and congratulate all the actors of the snowboard scene for their motivation and initiatives. See you next year to make Santa Claus green with envy!

O’Neill Evolution in Davos

From 2ns to 7th january the O’Neill Evolution (6Stars) will take place in Davos (Sui). Follows the official press release.

By: TTR press office

The Ticket To Ride (TTR) World Snowboard Tour launches 2007 with hot-heeled rivalry as the TTR Top 5 Ranking List presented by Swatch is in line for dramatic change as the current Top 4 Men prepare to compete for two sets of 1000 TTR Ranking Points, awarded through Superpipe and Quarterpipe results at the TTR SIX(6)STAR event O’Neill Evolution, 02nd-07th January at Davos, Switzerland.

Reaching one of the most sensitive stages in the Men’s TTR World Snowboard Tour so far, all is to ride for as less than 100 points separate the Top 8 Ranking spots. Friday’s finals at the O’Neill Evolution Superpipe will make a decisive impact on the Men’s TTR Ranking List leading into Saturday’s Quarterpipe Finals. Current TTR World Nr 1 Scotty Lago (USA) needs to make at least Top 8 in the Superpipe contest if he is not to be ousted by a title win from either current TTR World Nr 2 Risto Mattila (FIN), Nr 3 Danny Davis (USA) or Nr 4 Nicolas Mueller (SUI), all decided by a fraction of a point. Antti Autti (FIN) now ranked 6th could also be in with a chance of taking the tour lead with a first place win, if Lago does not make the Top 24. A rider’s 2nd, 3rd or 4th final result at the O’Neill Evolution Superpipe will also create a dramatic shift as the pressure to perform develops: the smallest difference in a rider’s score will be his biggest determining factor in the TTR Ranking List.

Further Tour drama unfolds with the Women’s TTR World Snowboard Tour. Current TTR World Nr 1 16-year-old Jamie Anderson (USA) would maintain her championship lead with a win in Friday’s Superpipe Finals. Should reigning TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion Cheryl Maas (NED) take first place, Saturday’s Quarterpipe Finals will be an interesting battle between the two girls as Maas ascends the ranks to a possible Top 3 position. Kjersti Buaas (NOR) is also in with a chance to enter TTR Top 10 with a Superpipe victory.

The O’Neill Evolution rider line-up heralds some of the greatest stars of snowboarding. Making their TTR World Snowboard Tour 0607 debut, O’Neill team rider Gian Simmen (SUI) and TTR Top 10 05/06 rider Janne Korpi (FIN); TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion title-defender Mathieu Crepel (FRA) joins TTR patron and halfpipe master Terje Haakonsen (NOR), quarterpipe killer Markku Koski (FIN), pipe-pimp Markus Keller (SUI), up-and-coming all-rounder Jean-Jacques Roux (FRA) and Austrian shredder Wolle Beer (AUT), to name a few.

O’Neill Evolution brings further suspense as the men’s and women’s Superpipe Finals on Saturday 06th January determines the next crucial installment of the TTR Ranking List as the world’s best snowboarders continue their quest for triumph and the TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion 0607 crown.

J.Anderson won Roxi Chicken Jam

A rock-steady slopestyle victory went to 16-year-old Jamie Anderson (USA) this weekend as the Women’s TTR World Snowboard Tour first all-girl 6(SIX) Star event of the season, the Roxy Chicken Jam Europe, proves women’s snowboarding hits a new level.

Blessed with blue skies and a fun crowd at the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier Park, Kaprun, Austria, Saturday’s main session of 25 top female riders took advantage of the purpose-built slopestyle park featuring a multitude of kickers, rails and boxes to push their creativity, variation and style in a best-run-counts jam. Jamie Anderson (USA) consistently impressed the judges with her solid tricks and consistent runs claiming the 4th Roxy Chicken Jam Europe title with a frontside boardslide-to-fakie, cab 540, frontside 360 and a huge McTwist at the quarterpipe, winning a Gibson guitar, 10,000 euros and 1000 TTR Ranking points, catapulting her into the TTR World Nr 1 position.

Last year’s Roxy Chicken Jam Europe winner and TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion Cheryl Maas (NED) deservedly took second place with a smooth frontside boardslide-to-fakie, Cab 180 on/backside 360 down the butter-box, huge backside 720 at the big kicker and a backside air at the quarterpipe. The unstoppable Jenny Jones (GBR) gained a podium third with her best run: a boardslide-to-fakie, huge backside 360, frontside 540 nose-grab ending with a backside air at the quarterpipe.

Adding to previous wins in the earlier leg of the Women’s TTR World Snowboard Tour, new TTR Ranking Top 5 entries come from Silvia Mittermueller (GER) newly-ranked at TTR World Nr. 4 and British top rider Laura Berry (GBR) who launches into TTR World Nr. 5 position. The excitement resumes after the Christmas break until the next 6(SIX) Star pinnacle event on the Women’s TTR World Snowboard Tour, the unmissable O’Neill Evolution, Davos, Switzerland, 02nd January, 2007.
