Happy Shred - the report

The conditions could not be better. In the morning the clouds disappeared and gave the sky to bright sunshine for the fourth tourstop of the Quiksilver Wir Schanzen 2010. A diversified and perfectly shaped setup at the Quiksilver Crystal Ground waited for the riders who came in such a great number to the Kleinwalsertal that the starter field had to be enlarged. Many visitors got to see top motivated snowboarders and freeskiers who really took out a lot of their skis and boards on this dream day.

The kids started and in their three runs they set the bar very high. In the final the four respectively eight best kids showed awesome freestyle tricks. Freeskier Lukas Gütling (GER) and snowboarder Tobias Michel (GER) got the best points on the boxes, rails and other obstacles. After that the girls did not show any respect for the setup. Nadine Härtinger (GER) did not only win points in the overall snowboard ranking but also cool Quiksilver prizes and international TTR points. The journey was definitely worth it for Christl Radulwiz (AUT) as she stood on top of the freeski podium.

The men got straight down to the nitty-gritty. Snowboarders and skiers boosted the level so that the judges around David Kittlinger had the most difficult job on this day. After three runs of which two were evaluated the eight finalists in each category were fixed. In the finals the riders really stepped on it and presented freestyle tricks deluxe. In the freeski category Lukas Joas (GER) showed the best style and relegated Roy Kittler and his brother Thadde Joas to second and third rank. Max Lanzl (GER) convinced amongst the snowboarders and also ran riot at the following Red Bull Best Trick Session on the Split Spine (aka Double Matterhorn). So he had a double smile on his face and could not only take home the cool Quiksilver prizes but also the Red Bull IPod Touch.

But it was Flo Geyer (GER) who overawed the audience with his freeski action: his double backflip on this special obstacle did not leave any doubt who was the winner of this session.

The prize giving completed the meteorological precision landing at the Happy Shred. Just after the last applause had faded away the clouds came back and the sky cried tears of joy about this fantastic day at the Quiksilver Crystal Ground.

At the Afterparty the winners were hailed until the early morning. The beats of DJ Kawentsmann were just right to enjoy more than one cold drink.

Watch out! Within the next few days the Secret Spot for the big final of the Quiksilver Wir Schanzen 2010 will be announced. The finalists are fixed; the eight best riders of each category are qualified. In addition four Wildcards will be handed out for the Men’s categories. Stay tuned!
