NRK and World Snowboarding Championships announce broadcasting deal

(Oslo, May 24). The organizer of the World Snowboarding Championships announced its first major deal today when the host broadcasting agreement with NRK was made public.
NRK, the largest tv station in Norway, has produced The Arctic Challenge (TAC) since 2007. TAC and NRK has developed a fantastic tv product where sports, judging and graphics makes snowboarding exciting and accessible for all.

In 2010, TAC outperformed all other winter sports in the 12 to 19 age group, measured in market share. In 2011, NRK delivered all time high ratings for TAC with 335 000 viewers in Norway alone.

– Bringing the learnings from the TAC partnership to the World Snowboarding Championships, is a great opportunity. Snowboarding is a challenge for TV producers, but when you do it right it’s a hit among the viewers. The World Snowboarding Championships is one of our main project for winter 2012, and we have great expectations. Our objective is to deliver an innovative product that puts the snowboard world on its toes, says Rune Haug, head of sports at NRK.

In November, WSC launched a media partnership with IMG. IMG will be in charge of distributing NRK’s production to all corners of the world.
– The demand for action sports content is increasing dramatically among tv and online buyers. The World Snowboarding Championships will be the leading snowboard product of 2012. Our partnership with WSC is key to our action sports strategy for next year, says Senior Vice President Adam Kelly of IMG.

– When the world’s best snowboarders arrive here in Oslo in February, they deserve the best possible exposure. Together with NRK we’ll make sure their extreme performances are presented with respect and know-how. We have done this for a long time now, but the World Snowboarding Championships inspires us to push the limits even further, says Henning Andersen, CEO of the World Snowboarding Championships.
