When the World Snowboarding Championships (WSC) takes off in Oslo in February 2012, the riders can rest assured that the 22-foot pipe will be world class for the TTR World Snowboard Tour 6-Star event. Snow Park Technologies will put their A-team on the task of designing, building and maintaining a worthy infrastructure for a true World Champion.

No need for detailed explanations: Snow Park Technologies (SPT) is the world’s leading consulting team for special projects on snow: The Opens, ESPN Winter X Games, Winter Dew Tour, Red Bull Project X. SPT has done them all.

“We are proud to have been contacted by Terje and his team at WSC. It’s been a long time since snowboarders created a championship event. We are stoked to be involved in a new pinnacle event for our sport,” says Chris “Gunny” Gunnarson, President of SPT.

The arena construction work in Oslo is well under way. The local resort Tryvann Vinterpark is investing 25 million EUROs into new slopes, a beginners area, a new park and a full-fledged in-ground halfpipe. The new arena will be the biggest snow resort within a capitol city limits – in the world. Snowboarding’s popularity among the urban kids of Oslo is exploding; the latest user survey from Tryvann Vinterpark shows that 56% of all visitors in the evening opening ours are snowboarders. The standard ratio in Norway is 20%. With the new investments, Tryvann will double its yearly capacity to 400 000 visitors and make solid ground for further snowboarding progression.

The SPT team including Gunny Gunnarson and world renowned pipe shaper Frank Wells have already conducted a site inspection in Oslo in July to assist the resort in the in ground preparations. The new halfpipe will open at season kick off and be available for all visitors. Tryvann Vinterpark welcomes all pro riders and teams wanting to prepare for the WSC. In addition to a great park and pipe, you can enjoy the best après-ski in the world: Downtown Oslo.

“Last time we did a halfpipe was in 2004. It was crucial for us to find a credible partner to make the pipe. We are really happy that Gunny and his team takes on this challenge. Our shapers made a fantastic slopestyle for TAC 2011, and they will focus on making the WSC slopestyle perfect. With SPT taking care of the pipe, we can offer the best possible riding conditions,” says Henning Andersen, former CEO of The Arctic Challenge, now heading the WSC.
