Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games Programme

17 August 2011 – The Organizing Committee of the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Winter Games of 2014 in Sochi confirmed today in writing that the proposal made by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) in collaboration with the World Snowboard Federation (WSF) to include Para-Snowboard Cross Standing – Men and Women (2 medal events) has been rejected. Both the IPC and the WSF are very disappointed with the final decision on the snowboard events in the IPC Alpine programme. It was both of their hope that the inclusion of the two snowboard events would have created the bases for further development of the sport of Para-Snowboard.

Over the 2010-2011 season the WSF and the IPC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to help further develop the sport of Para-Snowboard. After a successful season of hosting four World Cups in Europe and North America, both organizations were confident that the outcome had made a positive impression on the Organizing Committee. For the 2011-2012 season Para-Snowboard will continue to be managed by the WSF (through the Sport Technical Committee) as the International Federation for the sport.
