The SLF is an interdisciplinary research and service centered located in Davos Dorf. It forms part of the WSL – the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research – and thus belongs to the domain of the ETH (Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology). Its scientists conduct research on snow, the atmosphere, natural hazards, permafrost and mountain ecological systems, and develop innovative products that translate their knowledge into practical applications. The SLF seeks to engage in top-level research while contributing to the resolution of urgent societal issues, for example in the fields of natural hazard warning systems and the analysis of climate and environmental change.

5.30 pm – Livigno Freeride Project.
Presented by Fabiano Monti (ALPsolut)

Since winter season 2013-2014 Livigno started the Freeride project, a 360° service on backcountry activities. A local avalanche bulletin is provided daily to inform about the snow stability conditions, meetings with the public are organized weekly for promoting freeride culture and snow safety concepts. For easing the approach to the backcountry trails for skitouring and for snowshoe are tracked and managed; moreover a freeride map with terrain classification is provided. For the experts, heliski activity is organized as well. Within the project some initiatives for promoting the wild-life protection are carried on. Thus, access to backcountry activities in Livigno is simpler and safer thanks also to the understandable way of communication provided by the Livigno Freeride Project.
