First Annual Adaptive Snowboard Festival

This is a general invitation to anyone interested in the new sport of adaptive snowboarding to attend the First Annual Adaptive Snowboard Festival. The Festival provides the opportunity to try adaptive snowboarding, network with adaptive coaches, experts, athletes and administrators, get classified, win prizes and much more. The Festival will take place at Grouse Mountain, in Vancouver, BC from January 8 to 10th 2010.

This communication contains information on the Adaptive Snowboard Festival components and the subsidies available.
This is a general invitation to anyone interested in the new sport of adaptive snowboarding to attend the First Annual Adaptive Snowboard Festival. The Festival provides the opportunity to try adaptive snowboarding, network with adaptive coaches, experts, athletes and administrators, get classified, win prizes and much more. The Festival will take place at Grouse Mountain, in Vancouver, BC from January 8 ˆ 10th 2009.
The Adaptive Snowboarding Festival will be of interest to:
– Adaptive Snowboarding athletes.
– Persons living with a disability interested in adaptive snowboarding
– Coaches and persons interested in becoming coaches.
– Experts in the area of snowboarding and/or disabled sports.
– Adaptive Snowboard Programs
– Provincial representatives to build adaptive snowboarding activities and events at the provincial level

What is Happening
The program of the Adaptive Snowboard Festival includes the following:
Ride with the Canadian Adaptive Snowboard National Team Coach and Athletes
Where: Grouse Mountain, Timber Room
When: Friday, January 8th, 2010 (meet at the Timber Room at 12:30pm)
What: Ride/meet with head adaptive coach and national team, hands on learning about adaptive snowboarding; meet experts, athletes, coaches, administrators and like-minded individuals in the sport.
Who: Anyone interested in Adaptive Snowboarding
Meet and Greet
Where: Grouse Mountain B.C, Timber Room
When: Saturday, January 9th 2010, (9:00am ˆ 11:30am approx)
What: Learn what adaptive snowboarding is, understand the process of classification, where the program is headed etc.
Who: Coaches, administrators, athletes, and anyone interested in learning and increasing their knowledge of the sport
Classification Clinic
Where: Timber Room, Grouse Mountain
When: Saturday, January 9th, 2010 (12:30-3:00pm approx)
What: Receive classification by a certified classifier
Who: Mandatory for all persons interested in taking part in Adaptive Snowboarding competitions; of interest to persons interested in learning about the classification process; not necessary for recreational adaptive snowboarders but welcome to attend.
Learn to Ride Camp
Where: Grouse Mountain, B.C
What: Introduction to snowboardcorss skills; receive training from qualified adaptive snowboard coaches
When: Sunday, January 10th, 2010 (9am-3pm); reception and awards from 3pm-4pm.
Who: Athletes, coaches, and physical rehabilitation workers interested in an introduction to competitive Adaptive Snowboarding.

Attached is the subsidy application for the Adaptive Snowboard Festival. Subsidies are available for eligible applicants (see Subsidy Application for more information).
Please complete and submit subsidy application forms to dustin@canadasnowboard.ca by 8am PST on Tuesday, January 5, 2010. There are a limited number of spots available in each of the component, and participation is by advance registration only.
