5th Annual Sugarloaf Banked Slalom

Come on out and join the greater Sugarloaf snowboard community for a truly fun, high-fiving event!

Nothing quite beats hanging out with 225 of your local New England homies at Sugarloaf for one of the East’s last snowboard-only events! Snowboarders will unite to celebrate the growth of the sport and to rip it up by many definitions of the phrase. Sugarloaf will host the fifth annual Banked Slalom on Saturday, March 21nd and Sunday, March 22nd, 2015. Based on the model of the Legendary Mt. Baker Banked Slalom, the Sugarloaf Banked Slalom is an open-registration event, featuring a course of banked-turns, winding its way down Sugarloaf’s iconic East Coast terrain.

The objective is simple: the fastest rider to the bottom wins in each division.

2015-Banked-poster_JPEG

Format:

The Sugarloaf Banked Slalom is open to snowboarders only. The event will be held over two days and will feature qualifiers on Saturday and finals on Sunday. For both days, the best run time of each racers two runs will count. Best of two runs, not combined time. All racers will need to qualify to race on Sunday. The bottom 20% of race times will be cut from the field for Sunday finals (total race times, not divisional). Any bib numbers that qualified on Saturday will be announced on the Sugarloaf website and social media. A Sunday qualified list will also be available for review at the Rack After-party on Saturday Night.  On Sunday, during the finals, run 1 race times will be displayed on-course and announced, with second run times being kept secret until the Awards Ceremony, where final results will be posted and announced.

Run orders for both Saturday and Sunday will be youngest to oldest, for both runs. Run 1’s will be taken from roughly 9:15 am – 12:00 pm, with run 2’s starting immediately after, with the youngest competitors.

Awards will be handed out to the top three overall times for Men and Women, and the top three times in each age category (for both men and women). Racers who take home the overall spots will be removed from their divisional chase. Therefore, overall champs will not be considered for divisional standings.

Cost:

The 2015 Sugarloaf Banked Slalom event registration is $50 and will include a goodie bag from event sponsors, an event t-shirt courtesy of LL Bean and course access, etc. This does not include a lift ticket. Lift tickets for Banked Slalom riders on Saturday and Sunday will be discounted to only $45 per day, half the price of the retail rate. So, if you don’t have a season pass, your total for the event weekend will be $140. Tickets may only be purchased as a two-day pass for $90 total, no single day, discounted tickets. Tickets may be purchased during the pre-reg party (cash or check only, ATM’s available) or during late reg on Saturday AM (cash, credit cards and checks accepted).

Vintage Snowboard Days 2015 Review

The first Vintage Snowboard Days and inaugural World Snowboard Federation Banked Slalom World Tour took place in the beautiful setting of Muehlbach Hochkoenig, Austria.

Vintage_Snowboard_Days-eignerphoto_web_54_Wenger-Oldschool

The event turned out to be a huge success, with over 90 racers signing up for the banked slalom and a diverse group of people coming to show off their vintage boards. The opening of the new snowboard museum brought a big crowd, with many open eyes and mouths blown away at the history and selection of old boards to check out.

Every participant in the banked slalom had a huge smile, it is the snowboard event everyone from families to World Cup competitors can share a fun day snowboarding, racing and partying together.

That is the spirit of banked slalom and this event reflected that positive energy! If this first event is any indication, snowboarding’s future is in good hands with banked slalom.

WSF Banked Slalom Tour

WSF introduces one of the new features of the upcoming season; presenting a Banked Slalom Tour, aimed to span from a side of a continent to the other, an international tour based on the true spirit of snowboarding.

banked-slalom-poster-2015-lq

Banked slalom combines the roots of snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding.

The past and the future meet in the banked slalom, the original discipline from where everything started. The WSF Banked Slalom Tour concept is to offer a platform and network within currently existing events and support to create new events.

Banked slalom is an easy way to bring more attention to snowboarding, from the media to new consumers: it is an all-ages discipline, a low risk sport and people have a lot fun competing in contests that do not require professional skills.

WSF invites all national associations that already have a banked slalom contest on their schedule to be part of the tour and fill out the application form to participate.

WSF also invite all of you to organize a BS contest and get support from us on how to do it. We will give technical support to those who have never organized a BS event, but WSF will also support the pr and communication for those events that are already planned for the season 2014/15.

Please read the attached presentation and don’t hesitate to contact Meini, WSF event coordinator (events@worldsnowboardfederation.org).
