7. Zillertal VÄLLEY RÄLLEY Tour started into the 2019/20 season at Austrian Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach

On December 21st – 22nd, the 7th edition of the Zillertal VÄLLEY RÄLLEY hosted by Blue Tomato & Ride Snowboards started into its 7th season at Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach. With over 120 registered riders and an international starter field, the first stage of Zillertal’s most popular Snowboard Amateur Series has been a full success. Andreas MonEpic Monsberger has put the results together in moving pictures.

What a tour start! Just in time for the first Zillertal VÄLLEY RÄLLEY tourstop 2019/2020 hosted by Blue Tomato & Ride Snowboards, the Betterpark Hochzillertal showed off with a majestic setup. Over 120 riders had signed up for the first VÄLLEY RÄLLEY stage at Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach. No wonder, that despite the wintery conditions, a lot of action was already going on at the snowpark on Saturday’s coaching day. Beside freebie Ästhetiker freestyle coachings with Steve Gruber, Klaus Hofmeister, Friedl Kolar and Chris Kröll, snowboarders from all over Europe came to practice for the contest at Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach.

On Sunday’s slopestyle contest, teams from all over Europe were pushing the limits on the slopestyle setup of Hocchzillertal-Kaltenbach’s snowpark. The podium winners of all eight categories got rewarded with medals, prizes and prize money. And while the new event host Blue Tomato and outerwear partner Horsefeathers Clothing were scouting for up-and-coming talents, the best trick award was up for grabs with a brand-new outerwear combo by Horsefeathers. In the end, it was Jakub Hrones from team CZE, who claimed the Horsefeathers Best Trick Award with his stylish „backside 900 mute“ and scored two gold medals – in the rookie class (16-18 years) and men’s open class – at the same time.

Darcey-Jane Williams from team GBR took the second award of the „most impressive grom of the day.“ In the ladies contest, it was Belgian ripper Evy Poppe who showed the best performances and double scored first place in the rookie girls and women’s overall ranking. In the groms class (13-15 years) Laura Záveská (CZE) and Lenny Fenning (GBR) took the top podium spots, while Shania Colsters from team NED and Emil Frey from team Germany each won gold in the super grom categories.

Martha Schultz, Ski Centrum Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach is delighted with the successful event: „Thanks to the team of the Ästhetiker. Once again, they were proffessionals at work. And these kind of events are important for wintersports and for our kids and young athletes. They convey the common joy out in nature and our youth is finding a platform to benchmark themselves.“

With the first out of four results, the hunt for valuable Zillertal VÄLLEY RÄLLEY overall ranking points kicked-off at Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach. The overall winners will finally be crowned new Royal Zillertal VÄLLEY RÄLLEY family 2020 at the last tour stop in Hintertux. Riders participating in Hochzillertal- Kaltenbach were further collecting points on the International World Snowboard Point List (WSPL). The tour stop counts as an ASA (Austrian Snowboard Association) Austriacup and provides points in the World Rookie Ranking and to qualify for the World Rookie Finals. More info at Powdern.com.

World Snowboard Federation announces new strategy and launches World Snowboarding

The World Snowboard Federation (WSF) today officially announces the completion of the merger with TTR Pro Snowboarding (TTR). Already for the 17/18 winter season, the merged organization will offer direct memberships and services for the sports key stakeholders: National Snowboard Associations, Event Organisers and Riders. All stakeholders will have voting rights in the WSF Annual General Meeting and representation on the WSF Board of Directors. All business operations and commercial activities will be provided by the World Snowboarding Marketing & Services GmbH, a company registered in Switzerland since 2011 and wholly owned by the WSF. This step marks the end of an era that began with the foundation of the WSF and the TTR in 2002 and the beginning of a new one with combined inherited values and culture ensuring the history of the sport will live on within its future framework.

Following a lengthy research project involving all of snowboarding´s key stakeholder groups, the WSF Board has approved the strategic plan proposed by an internal working group in a Board Meeting held in Zurich on Oct 4. A large cross section of National Snowboarding Organization’s, event owners and athletes were both interviewed and surveyed on the current situation within the sport and their needs. The overwhelming consensus of those surveyed has justified the relevance and essential existence of the WSF to the sport of snowboarding and its many stakeholders. This has led the board of the WSF to redefine its Vision and Mission statements as the foundation for the development and sub sequential implementation of the strategic plan.

VISION STATEMENT: ‘Inspiring people to participate, follow, and perform within snowboarding worldwide.’

MISSION STATEMENT: ‘To lead the development and growth of snowboarding worldwide, founded on its unique values and culture.’

As a first major strategic step in delivering our mission, the WSF has engaged in a dialogue with FIS to create a consistent and clear pathway for athletes and events at each stage of the sport development system. The desired outcome of discussions should see FIS and WSF work seamlessly within the proposed sports system servicing agreed components of the events pyramid eliminating confusion and simplifying the pathway for all stakeholders.

With its newly approved strategic direction, WSF will continue to focus predominantly on development of the sport and the events that fall into that arena on behalf of its NSO members, event members and the snowboard athletes worldwide. The WSF will continue to provide and maintain the world rankings for all freestyle disciplines (WSPL), the global event schedule and planning calendar, the Sports Data and Stats Center, an Officials Education Program, event resources and the bulk share of the world’s developmental snowboarding events and activities in service to its NSO, event and rider members.

Moving on – From World Snowboard Tour to World Snowboarding

The World Snowboard Tour, predecessor of the TTR World Tour, once represented the world´s largest collection of independent snowboarding events, ranging from entry level amateur events to the pinnacle events of the sport. With the changes in the marketplace over the last 3 winter seasons, what the World Snowboard Tour was originally built around ceased to exist or changed dramatically. Instead, the WST became a banner to unite snowboarding; the WSPL, whole of sport calendaring, judging education and a communications platform for the whole of sport in terms of competitions, rankings, rider information, stats and data, but no longer a tour in the original sense. With the merging of TTR and WSF, the World Snowboard Tour brand name will cease to exist. All existing and future services will be hosted under the new brand World Snowboarding on the World Snowboarding website (www.worldsnowboarding.org). The services will remain and be truly representative of the whole of sport. It will be the one stop shop for all information about snowboarding, its events and athletes.

‘With its legacy and foundation in the core snowboarding community, the WSF will strive to maintain the unique values and culture that its Mission Statement references. Snowboarding is an inspiring sport with a celebrated history and the WSF will do everything it can to keep that passion alive in the governance of our sport for the future generations of snowboarders.’
