2016 Beaver Valley Banked Slalom!

Building on three successful years as one of Canada’s largest annual snowboard gatherings, the 2016 edition of the Beaver Valley Banked Slalom promises to be the best yet with 250 riders competing for bragging rights and a shot at an entry to the Mt Baker Legendary Banked Slalom.

Beaver_Valley_Banked_Slalom_logo_lo

While it may be one of the only Canadian stops on the World Banked Slalom Tour, the Beaver Valley Banked Slalom is a laid back, super cool contest that celebrates snowboard culture like few others. And it raises thousands of dollars for Leukemia Research in memory of Beaver Valley snowboarder Jackie Snarr.

The Beaver Valley Banked Slalom is truly one of the only events in Canada where you will find shred “legends” from park, pipe, boardercross and race riding together and alongside the best “groms” and industry icons. And where staff from your local shop compete against staff from your local park.

Beaver_Valley_Banked_Slalom.1_sj_lo copy

Where a shred legend will kick your ass riding a 20 year old retro board. Where the rider drinking a PBR beer next to you on the deck at the afternoon apres might be the marketing director of one of the biggest companies in snowboarding. Where kids compete against their dads and moms. Where the “ski” racks at the base lodge are filled 100% with snowboards!

Where everyone is there NOT to win cash but to have fun riding with their friends and fellow shreds. Where there are more people riding Beaver Valley’s awesome park runs than it’s groomed trails. Where the afternoon deck party with bbq, beers and live bands is more important than the awards ceremony!

You can expect something new and cool every year at the Beaver Valley Banked Slalom from rails in the finish corral to a skateboard mini-ramp on the deck to a mini-shred park for the kids to retro rider awards and awesome punk bands. And there are mini-jugs of local Beaver Valley maple syrup for everyone. And special accolades for the top industry riders. And tons of charity prize draws supported by the leading brands in snowboarding.

No wonder the Beaver Valley Banked Slalom sells out every year!

Sudden Rush Laax 2015

Banked Slalom Open by Terje Haakonsen & Nicolas Müller!

Banked slalom is one of the oldest disciplines in snowboarding. The banked turns vary in size and the gates are positioned in the middle. The banked turns are not only a reference to the waves that surfers ride – they originated over 25 years ago and allowed snowboarders to perform quick turns even then, despite the edges and bindings not being as advanced as they are today.

flyer_sudden_rush_laax_2015-1

The Sudden Rush Banked Slalom in Laax is therefore a genuine classic. To do justice to its status, the event will be presented by some of snowboarding’s true legends. Presenters Terje Håkonsen and Nicolas Müller are two of the undoubted masters of snowboarding style.

At the Sudden Rush Banked Slalom in Laax you can enjoy races in a number of categories as well as hang out and party with other snowboard fans. The Sunday is dedicated to families and kids – a chance for the older generation of snowboarders to race with and against their children!

5th Annual Sugarloaf Banked Slalom

Come on out and join the greater Sugarloaf snowboard community for a truly fun, high-fiving event!

Nothing quite beats hanging out with 225 of your local New England homies at Sugarloaf for one of the East’s last snowboard-only events! Snowboarders will unite to celebrate the growth of the sport and to rip it up by many definitions of the phrase. Sugarloaf will host the fifth annual Banked Slalom on Saturday, March 21nd and Sunday, March 22nd, 2015. Based on the model of the Legendary Mt. Baker Banked Slalom, the Sugarloaf Banked Slalom is an open-registration event, featuring a course of banked-turns, winding its way down Sugarloaf’s iconic East Coast terrain.

The objective is simple: the fastest rider to the bottom wins in each division.

2015-Banked-poster_JPEG

Format:

The Sugarloaf Banked Slalom is open to snowboarders only. The event will be held over two days and will feature qualifiers on Saturday and finals on Sunday. For both days, the best run time of each racers two runs will count. Best of two runs, not combined time. All racers will need to qualify to race on Sunday. The bottom 20% of race times will be cut from the field for Sunday finals (total race times, not divisional). Any bib numbers that qualified on Saturday will be announced on the Sugarloaf website and social media. A Sunday qualified list will also be available for review at the Rack After-party on Saturday Night.  On Sunday, during the finals, run 1 race times will be displayed on-course and announced, with second run times being kept secret until the Awards Ceremony, where final results will be posted and announced.

Run orders for both Saturday and Sunday will be youngest to oldest, for both runs. Run 1’s will be taken from roughly 9:15 am – 12:00 pm, with run 2’s starting immediately after, with the youngest competitors.

Awards will be handed out to the top three overall times for Men and Women, and the top three times in each age category (for both men and women). Racers who take home the overall spots will be removed from their divisional chase. Therefore, overall champs will not be considered for divisional standings.

Cost:

The 2015 Sugarloaf Banked Slalom event registration is $50 and will include a goodie bag from event sponsors, an event t-shirt courtesy of LL Bean and course access, etc. This does not include a lift ticket. Lift tickets for Banked Slalom riders on Saturday and Sunday will be discounted to only $45 per day, half the price of the retail rate. So, if you don’t have a season pass, your total for the event weekend will be $140. Tickets may only be purchased as a two-day pass for $90 total, no single day, discounted tickets. Tickets may be purchased during the pre-reg party (cash or check only, ATM’s available) or during late reg on Saturday AM (cash, credit cards and checks accepted).
