World Snowboard DAY 2014 in South America

Even without snow and be in the summer time, South American snowboard communities have not lost the opportunity to show their love to snowboard and with eleven event proudly scheduled, WSD definitely had a Latino flavor this year! Churrascos (Brazilian BBQ), snowfilm sessions, hang out of skateboarding, surfing and sandboarding lets SA riders celebrating our iconic day!

wsd2014definitivo

Peru, Argentina and Brazil get involved with the 9th edition of World Snowboard DAY and most of the nationals communities had to be creative to commemorate it without snow. Our good friend and one of the most active female riders in Argentina, Eva Luna Fernández from San Martin de Los Andes and local rider in Chapelco ski resort, organized a typical assado (Argentinian BBQ) with her friend and local snowboard crew. In Peru, Martin Guerra realized a cool session of sandboard in the Oasis Huacachina including a jam session in the sand and a little awareness against the global warming.

WSD_SaoPaulo2014

With nine events scheduled and some 3 or 4 more but not officialized, Brazil show one more time that even if it is a huge continent without snow it is full of snowaddicted and the snowboard communities are active and involved to spread their snow passion to the world! From North to South, Brazilians riders organized a bunch of activities involving others board sports in order to commemorate the day: skate, surf and freebord sessions moreover than some sandboard jams and demos were played in tribute of snowboard. But also we had some parties, churrascos (Brazilian BBQ) and snow film festivals have made the day. Thanks to all the South American riders that keep it real and showed one more time that progression and involvement are growing and communities are ready for more. Stay tuned!

World Snowboard Day: The Coutdown has begun

Sunday, December 21, 2014, promises good times and snowboard-sliding fun. So get your gear ready pronto; in five days at a resort near you things are about to rock! As usual, you will find a whole host of activities during the event: contests, beginner snowboard lessons, gear tests, demos, meet-and-greets with professional riders, drinks, concerts, video contests, and much, much more. The only goal will be to have an unbelievably GOOD TIME! Enjoy activities for free, open to anyone and everyone, in order to discover the joys of sliding on snow, to share a common passion for snowboarding, and above all else to enjoy one outrageously excellent day!

WSD

This year, as with other years, the major players in snowboarding from all over the world have come together. As of now there are more than 88 events in 29 countries, hundreds of free activities open to everyone in order to make this coming Sunday, SNOWBOARDING DAY!

–          European countries answered the call in force, and WSD will be celebrated in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.

–          As usual, China will join the adventure and has 9 events already registered. We will also be able to count on Japan and South Korea to prepare us a mind-blowing experience for the 9th edition of World Snowboard Day! And this year, we are especially proud to announce that we have an event in India, in Gulmarg!

–          North America has also planned a plethora of events, with more than 12 in the USA and several events in Canada. The big surprise this year comes from the Southern Hemisphere, with 5 events in Brazil, 1 in Argentina, and 1 event in Peru! WSD will definitely have a Latino flavor this year!

To learn about the events organized in a neighborhood near you, take a look at the WSD website: www.world-snowboard-day.com.

In order to reduce the environmental impact of all these events, World Snowboard Day has joined forces with Mountain Riders, an association that promotes sustainability in the mountains, to publish an eco-guide for organizers so that they have the right tools in hand to plan and host an environmentally friendly World Snowboard Day event!

A second partnership has been established with Mountain Ride Share, a carpool website that specializes in traveling to ski resorts, in order to reduce CO2 emissions (good for the planet) as well as transportation costs (good for your wallet)!

Looking for Female Junior SB Freeriders

The Freeride World Tour (FWT) is organizing the Freeride Junior World Championships in Grandvalira Andorra at the beginning of February 2015 (weekend of the 7th).

While the men category is filled, the organizers are lacking SNOWBOARD GIRLS to have an exciting competition. Accepted are riders from 14 to 17 years old.  We therefore ask the NSAs, whether you know one or some female riders that would like to compete?

ABOUT THE EVENT:

– The competition will be FWT standards with one run, FWT judges, live webcast (etc.) and a World Champion title in the end.

– Registered so far is one girl from Spain and a couple girls from France but the organizers are lacking all other countries to be represented. FWT is aiming at 6-8 girls at the start, so there would be some room for your proposals.

HIGH LEVEL RIDING SKILLS REQUIRED

– The organizers underline the technical difficulties of the competition. Therefore it is very important that the girls who would like to take part, have to be experienced.

– In case of a registration, we therefore encourage you to attach pictures or a movie of the girl(s) showing their freeride skills.

FWT SUPPORT

– FWT will provide free inscription fees, lift tickets and lodging with half board for the junior and 1 adult company plus a small travel budget for the junior (depending on her origin).

For questions, suggestions and more details, please feel free to contact Berti Denervaud, berti@freerideworldtour.com

Or check out the FWT website here.
