2016 Völkl World Rookie Finals: New Champions Crowned!

The 11th edition of the Völkl World Rookie Final just crowned the best overall boy and girl at the Ischgl Snowpark. This year, the weather conditions did not help both riders and organizers, in fact after the first sunny day of qualification for rookie and grom boys, the qualification for the girls had to be cancelled. The final day was also postponed and it took place on Sunday, the 10th of April, when finally the sun came out again and gave the possibility to the both male and female riders to show their skills and their talent in the Ischgl Snowpark. In the final, 32 best overall boys and all the registered girls, that did not have the possibility to do the qualification day, showed an incredible level of riding with solid tricks in the two final runs.

wrf1

Enna Ikola from Finland, took the first place in the rookie category with a backside 360 melon on the first jump, frontside 360 fs grab on the second one, frontside air tailgrab on the spine and finishing up with a lipslide on the jib section. The finnish rider showed a nice and clean run, but at the end, the 12 years old, Kokomo Murase from Japan won not only in the grom category, but also the best overall girl of the Völkl World Rookie Final. The young Japanese destroyed the snowpark with backside 360 tailgrab and frontside 720 on the jumps, followed by a frontside air to fakie and a cab 180 to boardslide on the jib obstable.

After the girls final, it was time for the boys. The best 32 overall boys showed an incredible level of riding and at the end the champion was crowned. Isak Ulstein is the 2016 Völkl World Rookie Champion thanks to an incredible run consisting of a frontside 1080 fs grab and a backside 1080 mute on the jumps, a backside rodeo 540 tailgrab on the spine and 270 to boardaslide 270 out on the jib section. In the grom category, the level was pretty impressive, considering that the first grom ended up 4th in the overall ranking and the name of this future pro is Takeru Otsuka from Japan that performed a cab double cork 900 mute on the first kicker, a backside double cork 1080 mute, followed by a beautiful michalchuck melon transfer on the spine and concluding with a backside 270 boardslide on the final obstacle.

The report of 2016 Revolution Tour

The final stop of the Revolution Tour in Seven Springs was a successful one for the American snowboarders, who took three of four wins in the halfpipe and slopestyle competitions. Nora Healey (Plymouth, NH) took the win in slopestyle for the women while Lyon Farrell (Haiku, HI) won slopestyle for the men. Danny Davis (Highland, MI) took the top spot in halfpipe for the men.

3   4

It was Healy’s second win on the Revolution Tour, as she also won the Winter Park event just one week before. Healy was also crowned the overall tour winner. Anna Valentine finished just behind Healy as Seven Springs in second place. Farrell earned his first Rev Tour podium finish with the win in Seven Springs. He was joined on the podium by American Brock Crouch (Mammoth Lakes, CA). The overall win for the Rev Tour went to Dylan Thomas (Brooklyn, PA), who took second and fifth at the Winter Park event.

Though the Rev Tour is notably known as a place for up-and-coming athletes to hone their skills, Davis – who is widely known as one of the best professional snowboarders in the elite competitive ranks – needed to compete at Seven Springs to earn valuable FIS points leading into the 2016/17 season. Though he earned the win, he generously donated his prize money to the athletes who finished behind him. Davis was joined on the podium by Jason Wolle (Winter Park, CO), who finished second. Ryan Wachendorfer (Edwards, CO) was the overall tour winner for the halfpipe men.

Top finishers from Seven Springs men’s halfpipe: Blake Moller, fourth; Skyler Ordean, fifth; Chase Blakely, sixth.

2   1

Noelle Edwards (Stamford, CT) was the top American finisher in the ladies’ halfpipe event, finishing second. Edwards was joined on the podium by Anna Valentine, who finished third. Savanna Atkins and Kirsten Webster also made the finals, finishing fourth and fifth respectfully.

HIGHLIGHTS
_Nora Healey won slopestyle for the women. Her best run scored 90.5
_Lyon Farrell won slopestyle for the men. His best run scored 89.25
_Danny Davis won halfpipe for the men. His best run scored 97.75
_Nora Healy was the overall Revolution Tour winner in women’s slopestyle.
_Dylan Thomas was the overall Revolution Tour winner in men’s slopestyle.
_Ryan Wachendorfer was the overall Revolution Tour winner in men’s halfpipe.

The U.S. Revolution Tour is the place for top amateur skiers and snowboarders to prove their merit and transition from competing at grassroots to the elite level.

2016 Oslo Rookie Fest Video

Isak Ulstein And Emmi Parkkisenniemi Win The Oslo Rookie Rookie Fest 2016!

text-oslo

The sun over the perfectly shaped black line in the Oslo Vinterpark was giving it all – and so did 75 young snowboarders at the Oslo Rookie Fest 2016 from 26th to 28th of February. Enjoy the video of 2016 Oslo Rookie Fest!

Oslo Rookie Fest 2016 from MOON on Vimeo.

The Black Yeti’s first ever slopestyle stop in the Norwegian capital was highly awaited – Norway has been one of the most represented countries in the World Rookie Tour the past few years. During the NATIONAL level World Snowboard Tour contest on past Saturday, Rookies stemming from eight different countries proved their Black Yeti skills showcasing massive tricks. Norwegian rider Isak Ulstein left the greatest impression on slopestyle course. Best girl became Rookie Emmi Parkkisenniemi from Finland. Isak and Emmi brought home full-paid tickets for the pinnacle event of the World Rookie Tour – the 2016 Volkl World Rookie Finals in Ischgl, April 2016, snowboards from Sims and Never Summer and of course the famous Black Yeti trophies. Parallel to the Oslo Rookie Fest, the X Games Oslo were going down in the World Winter Capital. After practice and competition, the Rookies watched the best riders of the world competing in the X Games Oslo Finals in Halfpipe and Big Air.
Several athletes of the X Games Oslo have previously competed in the World Rookie Tour, which is providing the unique chance to help the next generation of pro snowboarders to experience their first dives into international contests and develop their competition skills. Besides exercising and watching high level riding, the Rookies enjoyed a snowskate session with the local Asker Snowboard and Freestyle Club pushing the Rookies skateskills on snow.

If you dream to become a professional snowboarder,
then your future starts from Rookie Fest!

ABOUT THE WORLD SNOWBOARD FEDERATION
The World Snowboard Federation (WSF) is the international organization exclusively working to develop the sport of snowboarding at all levels. Program areas include: competitions, Para-Snowboard, judge and shapers, education and certification, and snowboard activities for riders of every age. The WSF represents a network of National Snowboard Associations (NSAs) who work together at a worldwide level to promote the development of snowboarding. NSA members can find a source of inspiration and support from the WSF for the activities they are conducting within their nation and by working towards the same goal: progression of snowboarding from the ground up. The WSF collaborates with the TTR Pro Snowboarding, the owner and operator of the TTR World Snowboard Tour and the TTR World Ranking System. Through this collaboration and coordination of events at the TTR World Snowboard Tour, The WSF and the TTR want to create an environment that fosters the development of competitive snowboarding. In February 2012, the WSF and the TTR hosted the inaugural World Snowboarding Championships in Oslo, Norway, an elite level event to be held every four years in alternating cities around the world. About TTR Pro Snowboarding & World Snowboard Tour
TTR Pro Snowboarding is a non-profit organization that oversees a professional network of events and athletes. Our objective is to develop and showcase the sport of snowboarding through the World Snowboard Tour, while facilitating a fair and open competition environment that includes innovative judging and ranking systems. We encourage riders to develop from rookies into world-class athletes through a 6 Star level rating system; which will be replaced by a new 4-tiered structure from October 2014. Under the new World Snowboard Tour 2.0, the 4-tiered structure will encompass Elite, International, National, and Regional event levels. Elite events will comprise the WST Pro Series (current working title). The Regional, National, and International levels of the WST 2.0 will make up the WST Qualifying Series (working title).
