Champs Open in Crans-Montana Report

After a difficult week of strong winds, the Crans-Montana Champs Open presented by Rip Curl finally saw some beautiful blue bird days for the semi-finals and finals. A cheerful crowd of spectators on the Cry d?Er watched six women and twelve men going huge in the finals, proving their skills on a course that truly represents the Swatch TTR principle: only a snowboarder who can master a great variety of features, from kickers, to rails, to transitions, can claim the title.

Jaakko Ruha from Finland, who fought his way up from open qualifications, stomped the best tricks in the Slopestyle section alongside a solid performance in the Halfpipe, finishing in 1st at the Champs Open. Ruha was followed by two invited Swiss riders who proved their home turf advantage, with Gian Simmen finishing 2nd and Stefan Maurer in 3rd. Ursina Haller, also from Switzerland, won the Champs Title in the women?s competition throwing down the best runs in the halfpipe and an equally impressive slopestyle performance. Julia Baumgartner (AUT) took the 2nd place spot and Margot Rozies (FRA) finished 3rd.?

The best run from the winner Jaakko Ruha boasted a sick BS 1080 Tailgrab over the first kicker followed by a BS Rodeo 540 Melon over the Spine and a Tailpress revert on the Rail. In the pipe he stomped some solid 720s and Backside, as well as Frontside Airs. Stefan Maurer blew the crowd away with a massive Backflip straight over the long spine.? The women also threw down, with some nice 360s over the smaller kicker. Ursina Haller secured her win with a smooth FS 720 and FS 540 in the halfpipe while Julia Baumgartner impressed the crowd with a huge Nosegrab on the spine.

Both winners are taking home a piece of the

TTR 6 Star Events 0708

TTR announce it’s main events for next season: 6 event at 6 star level.

The TTR General Assembly in May decided to cap the premium FIVE(5) and SIX(6) STAR event tiers on the 07/08 TTR World Snowboard Tour to consolidate the considerable progress made over the course of last season. This decision ruled that a maximum of six events at the SIX(6) STAR tier and ten events at the FIVE(5) STAR tier will be accredited for the upcoming 07/08 season. This, combined with the largest number of high value event properties applying to join the Tour on all levels, has made the difficult application process careful and considered. Following lengthy deliberation, the TTR Board is pleased to announce the official Men’s 07/08 TTR World Snowboard Tour SIX(6) STAR Calendar.

The accreditation process reviewed event applications evaluating major factors such as past performance, riding infrastructure, communication, event organization, TV product, rider participation, geographical balance, media services, judging and riding formats – amongst others. Each event on the SIX(6) STAR tier also guarantees to secure a minimum of

USA Nationals Champs 06

Final event of the american snowboard calendar was in North Star at the beginning of april 06. In Lake Tahoe, California, more than 1400 riders (and other 3.000 people like friends, relatives and media) join the USASA Nationals: 5 different disciplines and more than 10 age group to realize the biggest snowboard event of the world.

Some pics from the half pipe junior competition

The organization was very good, with a program that consist every day of different age competition in different tracks, so everybody can run every discipline. Giant and double slalom, half pipe, boardercross and slope style. Every evening there were the daily prize giving in the center of NorthStar: in 6 day, more than 400 medals where assigned in front of thousand of passionate riders.

Freestyle is for everybody: junior, kids and, no question, adaptive too!

To join the USASA National, is necessary to run before one of the 38 USA Series, arriving in the top 3 of one category. Riders from other country can join the competition in the “Open Class”. It’s of course an impressive event with riders from 6 to 60 years of age, and a good riding level in the most interesting categories (beetwen the 14 and 30 years and the open class). There was also an adaptive category and i think this is the only snowboard competition in the world with this.

Many riders still love racing format!

The general prize money of the competition was about 10.000
