Austrian Masters

Slopestyle preparations are well underway as organizers of TTR THREE(3)STAR event Austrian Masters get ready to launch qualifying riders from the Austria Cup Tour into the finale at the K-Park in Kuehtai, 8th-11th March, 2007.

Lack of snow in the season had earlier forced Austrian Masters organizers to cancel the originally planned halfpipe format at Innsbruck’s Nordpark. With the K-Park snowpark in Kuehtai looking in good condition, the event continues solely with Slopestyle action. Run by Austria’s National Snowboard Association, Thursday March 8th begins Training, followed by Qualifications Friday and Finals Saturday. Men and women riders qualified through the ten-stop Austria Cup Tour.

The Brits 2007

Everything is set for the Brits kick off. From 10 to 17 march, best english riders will compete in Laax for the national titles and for a week full of parties. Follows last updates and the announcement of Animal Slope Style, Quick Silver Big Air and SNO!zone Halfpipe Championships.

Quiksilver Grabs Some Air Time at the BRITS
*******BRITS 2007 News Update*******

The organisers of the British Snowboard and Freeski Championships are excited to announce that Quiksilver has joined forces with the current impressive line up at the forthcoming BRITS 10th – 17th March 2007, Laax, Switzerland, to take the title of the Quiksilver British Big Air Championships and introduce the new head-to-head format.

It’s hardly surprising that the Snowboard Big Air Championships is a major draw at the BRITS, with the country’s top names throwing down over Laax’s incredible kickers. Last year’s spectacle saw World class performances from genuine World class athletes such as Scott McMorris, Danny Wheeler, James Thorne & Jenny Jones, but it was new comer, Nate Kern, who took the BRITS by storm, stomping the first ever cab 1080 seen at the BRITS to secure the Championship title.

The 2006 Freeski Big Air Championships stepped up to demonstrate that it is rapidly becoming as fiercely fought as the Snowboard Champs, producing some crazy switch corked 9’s from eventual Champ Joe Tyler while Naomi Edmondson once more stamped her dominance in the event as she took the Big Air Championship title for the second year running. So if last year’s BRITS and this season’s AIM Series are any indication, then the Quiksilver Big Air Championships promises to push the envelope further and is sure to provide an opening for our new rising stars to emerge.

SNO!zone Secures the British Halfpipe Championships
*******BRITS 2007 News Update*******

Monday 12th February 2007 – Taking the title rights for the British Halfpipe Championships at this year’s BRITS 10th – 17th March 2007 is the UK’s premier indoor real snow slopes – SNO!zone. After an inspirational Halfpipe Championships in 2006, standards are set to soar at this years newly titled SNO!zone British Halfpipe Championships, with the UK’s best Halfpipe riders, including Olympians Dan Wakeham and Lesley McKenna set to lead the charge.

The Halfpipe discipline may only make up a quarter of the overall BRITS pie, but what a seriously meaty portion it proved to be last year, with ground breaking riding from the talented GB snowboard team and the mighty freeski pipe wizards. Paddy Graham, current Freeski Halfpipe Champion was easily pushing 6m out of the coping, whilst Snowboard Halfpipe Champ Dom Harington landed the first ever 1080 seen at the BRITS!

Animal Steps up to own British Slopestyle Championships
*******BRITS 2007 News Update*******

A favourite discipline amongst the kids, the Animal Slopestyle Championships promises to deliver a display of the most progressive snowboarding and freeskiing talent the UK currently has to offer. Taking place on Laax’s world renowned freestyle course, the Animal British Slopestyle Championships are set to be a major highlight of the week.

Trespass Stakes it’s Claim to the British Snowboard / Skiercross Championships
*******BRITS 2007 News Update*******

Spencer Claridge, Director of Soul Sports quoted: – “Following five years of support to the British Championship Series, there is no more fitting brand than Trespass to be the first to stake its claim to ownership of a Championships title. We are delighted that Trespass has increased its involvement with the BRITS and very much look forward to promoting the brand as a true supporter of UK freestyle snowsports development”.

Michael MacDonald, of Trespass quoted: – “Along with the British Championship Series we aim to lift the profile of our snow-sports and its participants. Trespass is all about access, whether it’s supporting the BRITS or designing technical outerwear that won’t break the bank. We support the British Snowboard and Skiercross Championship events as these disciplines are accepting of all comers, beginners, pros, freestylers, freeriders or alpine (remember that!?)
We can’t wait to kick things off at this year’s BRITS 2007. Now that it is ranked as a TTR event, the rest of the world will have to take notice, the BRITS are coming!”

Following its exhilarating debut at the 2006 Winter Olympics, and a firm favourite with Olympian and X Games competitor, Zoe Gillings, the Trespass Snowboard and Skiercross disciplines, will kick start the BRITS competition and set the pace for the week. The discipline which has been heralded as a 21st century hybrid of snowboarding and motorcross, will see competitor’s race against the clock and each other in heats of four down a challenging course that includes bumps, jumps, tight banked turns and sometimes, full body contact, until the fastest riders are left victorious. The Slopestyle, Halfpipe and Big Air disciplines and their forth-coming sponsorship announcements will be made shortly.

The BRITS, now ranked as a 3-star TTR event, offers a mixture of the best of British snowboard and freeski action, alongside cutting edge tunes in Europe’s premiere freestyle resort of Laax, Switzerland. Small Step for TTR, A Huge Step for UK Snowboarding

The AIM Series – the National Snowboard Championship Circuit – has become the first UK event to gain TTR World Snowboard Tour Ranking. All riders that have competed in the 2006 AIM Series to date have been given World Ranking points. Currently placed in 8th position Worldwide is the UK’s very own Shaun White, 13 year old Jamie Nicholls, who after competing at every AIM Event is placed directly beneath Norway’s super-kid, Mikkel Bang.

Due to demand from Nations such as Great Britain, the World Snowboard Federation (WSF) has taken control of 1(one), 2(two) & 3(three) Star Ranking events which feed into the TTR World Snowboard Tour. Integration within this Tour through partnership with the WSF provides AIM Series competitors the ability to measure their performances against the World’s best, and provision of an overall World Ranking Position. Spencer Claridge, Director of Soul Sports, organisers of the AIM Series explains – “It is difficult to emphasise adequately just how pivotal this progression could prove in raising the professional attitude and ambition of British athletes”.

Each AIM Series event has been given a Star Ranking, in recognition that the events serve to develop and promote the UK’s best amateur and professional freestyle snowboarders. The organiser’s attention is now firmly focused on the Rookie to Pro stepping-stone process that this partnership encourages and pushing UK snowboarding to the next level.

AIM Series & TTR Ranked Events:
Artificial AIM Series Events = 1 STAR
