What is the LAAX OPEN?
The LAAX OPEN is a snowboard event that will be held for the first time from January 18-24, 2016, setting new standards. The LAAX OPEN guarantees a week of snowboarding at its finest. This includes halfpipe and slopestyle contests for men and women with total prize money of USD 500,000. Concerts and powder sessions round off the LAAX lifestyle experience.

What are the riding formats?

In the open qualifications (30 women/60 men per discipline), each rider has two runs, with the highest score counting. The best riders go on to the semi-finals, where they’ll meet seeded international top riders. If not all of them show up, the field (20 women/40 men) will be filled with more riders from the qualifiers. There are also two runs in the semi-finals, with the best score counting. Those making it to the top 6 in the women’s and top 12 in the men’s category will go on to the finals for the first ever LAAX OPEN titles.

Who are the seeded riders?
The top 10 women and top 20 men in the slopestyle and halfpipe World Snowboarding Points List (as of October 17, 2015) will be seeded into the semi-finals as well as 4/8 wild cards, which are on discretion of the event-organizer LAAX.

May I also take part in the contest?
Yes, qualification is open to any passionate rider, born 2001 or earlier. But to lay it on the line for you: you should be able to rock the Pro-Kicker-Line at Snowpark Curnius with its special event set-up and the 200-metre-long superpipe with its 6.9-meter walls.

How many open spots are there?
30 woman/60 men per discipline

Where and when do I register?
At www.laax.com/open from October 20 to November 30, 2015

Of course, you’re also welcome to experience the LAAX OPEN 2016 as a spectator! And anyone interested in media accreditation should directly contact the media service.

Sudden Rush Laax 2015

Banked Slalom Open by Terje Haakonsen & Nicolas Müller!

Banked slalom is one of the oldest disciplines in snowboarding. The banked turns vary in size and the gates are positioned in the middle. The banked turns are not only a reference to the waves that surfers ride – they originated over 25 years ago and allowed snowboarders to perform quick turns even then, despite the edges and bindings not being as advanced as they are today.

flyer_sudden_rush_laax_2015-1

The Sudden Rush Banked Slalom in Laax is therefore a genuine classic. To do justice to its status, the event will be presented by some of snowboarding’s true legends. Presenters Terje Håkonsen and Nicolas Müller are two of the undoubted masters of snowboarding style.

At the Sudden Rush Banked Slalom in Laax you can enjoy races in a number of categories as well as hang out and party with other snowboard fans. The Sunday is dedicated to families and kids – a chance for the older generation of snowboarders to race with and against their children!

Tit Stante and Thalie Larochaix win the Iceripper Rookie Fest in Laax

Slowenian young gun Tit Stante wins the rookie category ahead of the two swiss riders Menduri Stecher and Yannick Hermann. Rookie Girls winner Thalie Larochaix claimed her victory while Ramona Petrig (SUI) got second and czech girl Katerina Vojeckova got third.

The Iceripper Rookie Fest was a big success. The strong international riderfield was pushing the level of the young halfpipe riding higher and higher. After a perfect bluebird training day the qualification day had to be cancelled due to strong wind. But this is not a big deal in Laax, most riders just spent the afternoon in the freestyle academy then. The evenings before the young riders enjoyed a ping pong tournament or a movie night all together.

For the final day the organizers could use a short window of less wind and made a fair contest with two runs for each rider possible. With two solid runs Tit Stante knew how to impress the judges and scored 94 points in his second run. “I’m very happy with that victory because I always like being here, the pipe in Laax is just great!”  Best grom of the Iceripper Rookie Fest was young swiss rider Florian Fischer. The incredibly talented slopestyle-rider Elias Rupp got second while almost-pro-skater Dawa Jordenkhangsar completed the podium of the groms.

Best grom girl was the young swiss Berenice Wicki just slightly ahead of Leilani Ettel from Germany and Ariane Burri. The first World Rookie Tourstop in switzerland was realized thanks to the initiative an teamwork between the snowboardteam iceripper, the Audi Snowboard Series, the World Rookie Tour and Laax.
