WSF Banked Slalom Tour 18/19 Application Open

The WSF Banked Slalom World Tour is back. Launched in October 2014, the BST is an international campaign to promote and celebrate the history of snowboarding. In its second edition, more than 2800 riders took part in the tour that crossed 10 countries worldwide with 22 events and the upcoming tour will be even bigger.

About Banked Slalom
Banked slalom combines the roots of snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding.
The past and the future meet in the banked slalom, the original discipline from where everything started. The WSF Banked Slalom Tour concept is to offer a platform and network within currently existing events and support to create new events.
Banked slalom is an easy way to bring more attention to snowboarding, from the media to new consumers: it is an all-ages discipline, a low risk sport and people have a lot fun competing in contests that do not require professional skills.

How to take part to the WSF Banked Slalom Tour
WSF invites all national associations that already have a banked slalom contest on their schedule to be part of the tour and fill out the attached application form to participate.
WSF also invite all of you to organize a BS contest and get support from us on how to do it. We will give technical support to those who have never organized a BS event, but WSF will also support the pr and communication for those events that are already planned for the season 2018/19.

Please download the application form and consult the general information and event benefits and recommendation. Do not hesitate to contact us here: events@worldsnowboardfederation.org
Please send the application form back toevents@worldsnowboardfederation.org

Perfect season finale at the CharitySläsh Banked Slalom 2018

The event united the local and international snowboard community in Kühtai

On April 14, 2018, the CharitySläsh Banked Slalom 2018 took place in Kühtai. The charity race for the Wings for Life Foundation attracted 171 starters and many visitors. With fabulous weather and terrific snow conditions for a banked slalom, the riders were celebrated by the spectators and carried to the finish under the tunes of the local DJs InnFayas & Gundada Sound. The atmosphere was excellent.

The race

At 9 o’clock opened the registration. The race started at 11:30 a.m. and lasted until 3:30 p.m. The participants rode in five categories: Groms (under 14 years), Adults (men & women) and Legends (men & women, born in the 70s and older). You could win medals designed and made by a project team member, snowboards by Nitro Snowboards, glasses by Gloryfy Unbreakable, equipment, vouchers and more.

A day full of action!

The food and beverage offer provided all hungry participants – these donated diligently in the donation boxes on site. In the raffle there were great prizes to win. The supporting program was also very well received: the EXPO stands of the exhibitors Nitro Snowboards, KORUA Shapes, The Bakery Snowboards and Freshlines Boards offered equipment for borrowing and testing as well as advice and comprehensive information for all those interested. The unique fun bikes from Hillstrike Snowtrike and the snowskates from Leise Bretter 03 have been extensively tested and were the attraction besides the race. Daniel and Benjamin Mösl from the Yamaha Action Team kept surprising visitors with unique stunts on the skidoo and a paraglider.

Learning effect for the students

The event was organized by five students of the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol as part of the compulsory practical project of the Sports, Culture & Event Management degree program. The event process required a lot of flexibility, spontaneity and communication and served as a perfect lesson for the project team. Project manager and snowboarder Melina Merkhoffer draws a positive balance: “We have reached our goal to unite the snowboard community. The fun of snowboarding and the experience for young and old were in the foreground. We received very positive feedback “.

The Gstaad Banked Slalom was a big success!

The Gstaad Banked Slalom took place on Easter Monday, with perfect weather and snow conditions. This fun event was part of the swiss national tour, the Audi Snowboard Series, and one of the two Banked Slalom Tourstops.

Banked Slalom is one of the oldest disciplines of snowboarding and it has been becoming more and more popular in the recent years, because of the chill and fun format, no matter what is the riders’ level. During the day, some fresh snow arrived and the course was soft, but the conditions were perfect!

76 riders took part in the Banked Slalom: they had the chance to train for one hour and then the race started. Everyone had the possibility to ride twice and the best one counts. The youngest participant was 5 years old and the oldest 71 years old, a good range of snowboarders took part and had a lot of fun during the day. The fastest one was the man from Adelboden and also hobby snowboard-cross rider, Ändu Oester. For the women, Eliane Reusser set the best time in the course. The 2 fastest of the U11 girls stood out especially, including Maria Schmid from Saanen. They were faster than the boys in their age and would even be far ahead of the U13 guys.

A new category was introduced for this event, the family category. The best times of a team composed by one adult and one child were summed up. This family category was won by Adrian Tanner and Gilles Bonnard. The fastest domestic family were Schillinger’s from Zweisimmen with Finn from the rookie crew and their leader Hansi.

The motto of the day was to have fun and enjoy the course. Prizes were offered by the children’s clothing supplier Namuk and the Pure Snowboardshop. The Snowboard Club Saanenland thanks the support of Gstaad for the successful event.
