J.Anderson won Roxi Chicken Jam

A rock-steady slopestyle victory went to 16-year-old Jamie Anderson (USA) this weekend as the Women’s TTR World Snowboard Tour first all-girl 6(SIX) Star event of the season, the Roxy Chicken Jam Europe, proves women’s snowboarding hits a new level.

Blessed with blue skies and a fun crowd at the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier Park, Kaprun, Austria, Saturday’s main session of 25 top female riders took advantage of the purpose-built slopestyle park featuring a multitude of kickers, rails and boxes to push their creativity, variation and style in a best-run-counts jam. Jamie Anderson (USA) consistently impressed the judges with her solid tricks and consistent runs claiming the 4th Roxy Chicken Jam Europe title with a frontside boardslide-to-fakie, cab 540, frontside 360 and a huge McTwist at the quarterpipe, winning a Gibson guitar, 10,000 euros and 1000 TTR Ranking points, catapulting her into the TTR World Nr 1 position.

Last year’s Roxy Chicken Jam Europe winner and TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion Cheryl Maas (NED) deservedly took second place with a smooth frontside boardslide-to-fakie, Cab 180 on/backside 360 down the butter-box, huge backside 720 at the big kicker and a backside air at the quarterpipe. The unstoppable Jenny Jones (GBR) gained a podium third with her best run: a boardslide-to-fakie, huge backside 360, frontside 540 nose-grab ending with a backside air at the quarterpipe.

Adding to previous wins in the earlier leg of the Women’s TTR World Snowboard Tour, new TTR Ranking Top 5 entries come from Silvia Mittermueller (GER) newly-ranked at TTR World Nr. 4 and British top rider Laura Berry (GBR) who launches into TTR World Nr. 5 position. The excitement resumes after the Christmas break until the next 6(SIX) Star pinnacle event on the Women’s TTR World Snowboard Tour, the unmissable O’Neill Evolution, Davos, Switzerland, 02nd January, 2007.

TTR tour drama continues with back-to-back 6(SIX) Star snowboard action in Japan

The TTR tour drama continues with back-to-back 6(SIX) Star snowboard action as the Tokyo Dome, Japan gets ready to welcome Nicolas Mueller (SUI), Travis Rice (USA), Risto Mattila (FIN), Antti Autti (FIN), Shaun White (USA), and the world’s top riders to battle for a further 1000 TTR points at the Nissan X-Trail Jam, on 9th-10th December, 2006.

Following last weekend’s history-making 6(SIX) Star Nokia Air&Style, the stars of snowboarding are making their way from Germany to Tokyo to an anticipated weekend audience of 75,000 Japanese fans. Construction works has all-but completed on the Big Air and Quarterpipe set-up with 400 tons of shredded ice and 800 people working around-the-clock to ensure this will be the best Nissan X-Trail Jam to date.

Rider line-up includes the Top 5 riders of last year’s TTR Ranking List – Nissan X-Trail Jam 05 defending champion Nicolas Mueller (SUI); TTR World Snowboard Tour Champion 05/06 Mathieu Crepel (FRA); Finnish sensations, Risto Mattila and Antti Autti who, at the Tokyo Dome last year, took 2nd and 4th place respectively; and TTR 05/06 World Nr. 4, Andy Finch (USA). Fresh from his victory podium at the Nokia Air&Style, Travis Rice (USA) joins Olympic Halfpipe superstar Shaun White (USA); ultimate pipe-machine, Danny Kass (USA); Olympic bronze medalist, Markku Koski; and Heikki Sorsa looking to improve his third place at Nissan X-Trail Jam 05. Top international wildcards join six Japanese riders pre-qualified from a field of 16.

The combined result from both Quarterpipe and Big Air will accumulate to give an overall result to crown the victorious 6(SIX) Star Nissan X-Trail Jam title-holder with its all-important 1000 TTR points. Possible TTR Ranking List new placings, based on an average divisible by ‘6’ contest results, include a tightly-run competition between 9th ranked Mueller who could move into TTR World Nr. 2 by taking a title win, and 11th ranked Mattila, who could launch himself into TTR World Nr. 3 with a victory. Rice, White, Autti and Crepel all have the possibility to hit TTR Top 5 with the event win. Roger Hjelmstadstuen as new Norwegian head coach

After teen years as a pro Roger Hjelmstadstuen (27) is probably more stoked on snowboarding than ever. And that is exactly why he now is taking on new challenges becoming head coach for the Norwegian National snowboard team. Roger teams up with new sports manager Vidar Nyhus (38), and The Norwegian Snowboard Association (NSA) is confident that the new duo will secure spot on development for young Norwegian talents and elite riders in the years to come.

– We are incredible happy to get them on board, says Annika Johnsson, General Secretary of the NSA. – Since former head coach Petter Levin ended his career at the Norwegian team after Torino, we’ve spent a lot of time developing a new team structure, as well as finding the right people.

Roger Hjelmstadstuen aiming for more snowboard happiness

The mellow Scandinavian, who along with epic video parts is known for spinning his way up on the podium in Japan and USA, was roaming around back home in Lillehammer planning for a new pro season when the opportunity unfolded.

– I was super stoked on the idea right away. Being a snowboard pro for a decade I knew that at one point I had to start thinking about doing something new. I am so glad I found a way to use what I have learned all these years – at the same time that I have a lot to learn, says Roger.

– I think the most fun part of my new job will be to help young riders that want to become the best, and give them what they need to get there, he says. – Now I hope that Vidar and I can pass on the fun of snowboarding to the younger generation! Roger concludes.

Building a new Norwegian national team
– Along with established pros such as Kjersti Buaas, Andreas Ygre Wiig, Fredrik Austbø and Mikkel Bang, there are also plenty of Norwegian riders knocking at the door, says Roger Hjelmstadstuen. – We’re going to broaden our perspective a bit and put more weight on slope style, not only half pipe and boarder cross.

– At this point we carefully need to look more at every single rider, boys and girls, Roger explains; – It will be key to find motivated riders that want to become a little bit better every day for the next four years. If so, then we will do all we can to support them to get where they want.

The New Norwegian National Snowboard Team will be announced soon!
