Perfect season finale at the CharitySläsh Banked Slalom 2018

The event united the local and international snowboard community in Kühtai

On April 14, 2018, the CharitySläsh Banked Slalom 2018 took place in Kühtai. The charity race for the Wings for Life Foundation attracted 171 starters and many visitors. With fabulous weather and terrific snow conditions for a banked slalom, the riders were celebrated by the spectators and carried to the finish under the tunes of the local DJs InnFayas & Gundada Sound. The atmosphere was excellent.

The race

At 9 o’clock opened the registration. The race started at 11:30 a.m. and lasted until 3:30 p.m. The participants rode in five categories: Groms (under 14 years), Adults (men & women) and Legends (men & women, born in the 70s and older). You could win medals designed and made by a project team member, snowboards by Nitro Snowboards, glasses by Gloryfy Unbreakable, equipment, vouchers and more.

A day full of action!

The food and beverage offer provided all hungry participants – these donated diligently in the donation boxes on site. In the raffle there were great prizes to win. The supporting program was also very well received: the EXPO stands of the exhibitors Nitro Snowboards, KORUA Shapes, The Bakery Snowboards and Freshlines Boards offered equipment for borrowing and testing as well as advice and comprehensive information for all those interested. The unique fun bikes from Hillstrike Snowtrike and the snowskates from Leise Bretter 03 have been extensively tested and were the attraction besides the race. Daniel and Benjamin Mösl from the Yamaha Action Team kept surprising visitors with unique stunts on the skidoo and a paraglider.

Learning effect for the students

The event was organized by five students of the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol as part of the compulsory practical project of the Sports, Culture & Event Management degree program. The event process required a lot of flexibility, spontaneity and communication and served as a perfect lesson for the project team. Project manager and snowboarder Melina Merkhoffer draws a positive balance: “We have reached our goal to unite the snowboard community. The fun of snowboarding and the experience for young and old were in the foreground. We received very positive feedback “.

The Gstaad Banked Slalom was a big success!

The Gstaad Banked Slalom took place on Easter Monday, with perfect weather and snow conditions. This fun event was part of the swiss national tour, the Audi Snowboard Series, and one of the two Banked Slalom Tourstops.

Banked Slalom is one of the oldest disciplines of snowboarding and it has been becoming more and more popular in the recent years, because of the chill and fun format, no matter what is the riders’ level. During the day, some fresh snow arrived and the course was soft, but the conditions were perfect!

76 riders took part in the Banked Slalom: they had the chance to train for one hour and then the race started. Everyone had the possibility to ride twice and the best one counts. The youngest participant was 5 years old and the oldest 71 years old, a good range of snowboarders took part and had a lot of fun during the day. The fastest one was the man from Adelboden and also hobby snowboard-cross rider, Ändu Oester. For the women, Eliane Reusser set the best time in the course. The 2 fastest of the U11 girls stood out especially, including Maria Schmid from Saanen. They were faster than the boys in their age and would even be far ahead of the U13 guys.

A new category was introduced for this event, the family category. The best times of a team composed by one adult and one child were summed up. This family category was won by Adrian Tanner and Gilles Bonnard. The fastest domestic family were Schillinger’s from Zweisimmen with Finn from the rookie crew and their leader Hansi.

The motto of the day was to have fun and enjoy the course. Prizes were offered by the children’s clothing supplier Namuk and the Pure Snowboardshop. The Snowboard Club Saanenland thanks the support of Gstaad for the successful event.

The Fourth Annual Transfer Banked Slalom was epic!

TBS17

Boom! The Fourth Annual Banked Slalom went off with an absolute bang…and I mean bang! If you were in Thredbo this weekend and took part in the snowboarding celebrations you would know what we’re talking about!

All competitors we’re greeted with perfect conditions on Sunday to hit the course with speed and confidence. It was nothing but blue skies, spring sun and good times up at the all new course location ‘The Playground’. The course offered more long, drawn out turns, allowing for everyone to enjoy the course at their own pace…however by the looks of what went down throughout the day, the only pace everyone had on their mind was…FAST!

TBS17

It sure was one gathering of the tribe as the event welcomed every generation of snowboarder to come and get involved and and have a crack at some fast flying action. From grom women to masters men, everyone killed it both on their board and in spirit.

The Fourth Annual Transfer Banked Slalom was lucky enough to host some of the worlds best snowboarders this weekend off the back of Volcom’s event ‘BOARDSTOCK’. The likes of Terje Håkonsen, Pat Moore and Mike Ravelson showed to give the local boys and girls a run for their money and boy did the locals have to run!

TBS17

In the Open Women, it was Wiki Jones (fastest women in Thredbo) who took out the event with style, grace and most importantly…SPEED! Wiki was closely followed by the shred mum superstar herself, Abish Bright in second place and Amber Arazny flew through the course to take out third place.

The Open Men’s category was stacked deep with heavy hitters as mentioned above. In first place it was the man, the myth, the legend himself, Terje Haakonsen that was crowned king of the Fourth Annual Transfer Banked Slalom. Terje had local shredders Ryan Tiene and Jye Kearney close on his tail, Ryan just snuck in with second place followed by Jye for third.

Beaver Valley Banked Slalom – Video, Photos, Results

With 250 riders entered, the 2017 Beaver Valley Banked Slalom capped off the season as largest snowboard gathering in Ontario Canada, attracting the best park, pipe, race and freeriders, from the newest generation to the legends and champions of old.

__cam_spalding_sq_lo_sj

The Beaver Valley Banked Slalom is the one annual event that brings together the entire snowboarding community for a fun “bragging rights” chase through the banked course as well as to shred some final park laps, ending with a massive afternoon apres! The Foremast Jacks band were back by popular demand to reprise their live music performance of last year to rock the deck party! Many thanks to Madjack Beer for supporting event!

_joel_vachon_sq_lo_gr-caption

A new addition this year was a classic spring snow “pond skim” in front of the base lodge deck during the afternoon. It provided some extracurricular fun for a number of banked slalom shredders and plenty of entertainment for onlookers, some of whom got as wet as the pond riders thanks to some well executed pond carves (Nick Marshall and Joel Dalacker!)

_bv_banked_slalom_deck_crowd_lo_sj

This year’s banked course was one of the most challenging and fun to date but still generated very fast times despite softening spring snow conditions. The fastest overall men’s and women’s riders were last year’s champs, boardercrosser’s Ryan Tryhane and Tayler Wilton who also won their 20-29 “Almost Washed Up” age categories. They took home massive jugs of Beaver Valley’s Canadian maple syrup and some new gear courtesy of Capita and Union for their victories.

As part of the WSF World Snowboard Banked Tour, the Beaver Valley Banked Slalom’s top three fastest men and women will be entered in the Tour’s lottery to score spots in the 2018 Legendary Mt Banked Banked Slalom, to be announced later this year. Congrats to this year’s fastest: Men – 1. Ryan Tryhane; 2. Kenny Riedman; 3. Michael Nazwaski. Women – 1. Tayler Wilton; 2. Hannah Kilmer-Choi; 3. Stephanie Angeja.

_kenny_reidmann_2nd_20-29_sq_lo_gr

Local shop staff and snowboard reps also battled for the coveted “Union Bindings Faster Industry Rider” award. This year it was Endeavor/Electric/Rip Curl rep Lee Jack scoring the fastest lap followed by Capita/Union/Dragon rep Connor Dudgeon and Sanction shop’s Travis Tedford!

The famed Beaver Valley Snow Parks were in great spring snow condition with multiple jump lines and tons of rail, jib, transition and box set-ups! Thanks to Caleb Bosse and the BV Snow Parks crews for the amazing work on the parks and banked slalom course!

One of the best things about the Beaver Valley Banked Slalom is the charitable funds it raises for Leukemia Research at Princess Margaret Hospital Cancer Centre in memory Beaver Valley snowboarder Jackie Snarr. This year’s Banked Slalom raised $16,000, adding to the over $47,650 raised by previous year’s events!

Thank-you to all of the BV Banked Slalom sponsors: Madjack; Ski Big 3 – Lake Louise/Sunshine/Norquay; Kawartha Metals; Union; Capita; Vans; Burton; 686; Ride; Arbor; Zeal; K2; Dragon; Coal; ThirtyTwo; Beaver Wax; Sandbox, Squire Johns, Beaver Valley Ski Club and member volunteers.

Pouring rain all day long – but GummiLove Banked Slalom Stoos was a big success

105 registrations (80 the year before) and 70 participants, the same number as the year before, ignored the really bad weather and celebrated snowboarding at it’s best in Stoos, the heart of Switzerland.

gummi-1

Daniel „Gummi“ Rietmann also didn’t care about the conditions and showed his happy face: „The set-up was extraordinary. I am sorry for the bad weather but that one definitely is not on us. We’re happy we could guarantee two nice runs for everyone. My respect goes out to the crew of Shredisfaction Snowpark Stoos and all the other volunteers. Everything went very well. Great job!

gummi-2

Happy faces everywhere
Beni Plüss, speaker and host from Shredisfaction still can’t find any words: „This is just amazing. We expected maybe around 10 freaks at the Klingenstock today. But 70 riders came here to participate. Unbelievable! That spirit you can only find in freestyle sports like snowboarding. This is very unique and the result was definetly worth the work.

gummi-5

Purtschert wins again
In the mens and girls categories the same riders as the year before were on top of the podium. Nadja Purtschert won with a fast 2nd run and Kilian Wiget was again fast as hell. Till Baechler grabbed the victory in his field of younger men (18-30). The fastest rookie at the GummiLove Banked Slalom was Julian Furrer, but the bravest of all was Neo: that little 7-year-old fellow accepted the weather and the challenge like a pro.Photo Credits: Patrick Graf
