Mel Simmons named as Partner Relationship Manager at TTR

Snowboarding veteran and long-time judge Mel Simmons from New Zealand will join TTR’s team in the Munich office in the newly created role as Partner Relationship Manager. In this position she will be the point person for World Snowboard Tour operations as well as coordinate the relationships with TTR’s key partners: events, riders and industry. Many of her responsibilities she will take over from Fabia Grüebler, who decided to leave TTR after more than three years as Tour Director.

TTR President Reto Lamm:
„First of all I would like to thank Fabia for the great work she has done in the past three years to develop the Tour. She has truly made an impact and has also become the face of the tour to the riders and events. Leading the tour restructuring over the last two years and establishing better relationships with the event organizers and the riders through supporting the setup of the Global Snowboarders Alliance (GSA) from TTR’s side were her major achievements. With the tour development continuing we decided to create a new role, that is dedicated to managing relationships with all key stakeholders of the tour. We are thrilled to get Mel on board with the World Snowboard Tour. Not only has she a deep passion and understanding of the sport, but she is also highly respected within the community through her work as a judge at major events and her pivotal role in the setup of the GSA. Through her position as Tour Coordinator for the Southern Hemisphere events in 2011/ 2012, she has a connection to our organization that goes way back.“

WST/WSF EU Judge Forum 2014

The World Snowboard Tour (WST) and The World Snowboard Federation (WSF) would like to invite you to The WST/WSF EU Judge Forum in Munich, Germany from December 12th to 14th 2014.

monaco-di-baviera

The Forum serves an education and collaboration environment that brings together snowboard judges of all levels of competition from regional to pro level, as well as coaches, riders, event organizers, and national snowboarding association (NSA) representatives who are interested in their personal progression in, and the future progression of, snowboard judging.
The Forum will address the current status of snowboard judging and judge education in relation to the tours, the events, and rider progression, and how best to support that progression and prepare the next generation of judges for the coming competition seasons.

Broken into two sessions, National and International Pro-Level, each session is tailored to a specific learning and collaborative environment relevant to the level of competition, its judges are qualified to attend.

National Judge Session – Two days: Dec 12th & 13th
International Pro-Level Judge Session – One day: Dec 14th

Registration for both sessions closes December 1st, 2014.

ABOUT THE SESSIONS
National Level Session (Basics) – Open Attendance
The National Session is geared towards entry to intermediate amateur level events at Regional and National level (formerly WST 1-3Star level). Focus is on judging and judge training and outlines Head Judge responsibilities. It also includes training regarding safety and running of freestyle events, as well as judging systems and formats. During the format section the SLS will also be covered as well as a brief introduction to the new WST 2.0 Halfpipe system. The clinic includes a test component that consists of video judging and theory.

By completing the test at National Judge Session, participants are awarded a “WST/WSF National C Judge” level certification – allowing them to judge at Regional and National level events.
Once a Judge fulfills the criteria laid out in the attached document, and attends the required Judging Session, higher levels of certification will be awarded, up to “WST National B Judge” level.
National level judges must attend both days in order to receive certification, and must attend a WST/WSF Judge Forum once every two years to maintain their active status.

International Pro Level Judge Session – Closed Attendance

Entry criteria:
– International Pro Judge Certified; or
– WST/WSF A Level Judge Certified; or
– WST/WSF National B Judge Certified on recommendation by the WSF or their NSA (max. 1 per nation, must provide a
Letter of Recommendation from either the WSF or the NSA Judge Director); or
– Judges, Coaches, Event or Rider representatives – by WST invite only.

Designed to encourage discussion and collaboration among high-level judges and attendees, the Pro Session will focus on new trick recognition, new judge systems, formats and structures, as well as skills in other areas required by high-level events such as large field sizes, progressive formats, working with live-scoring, TV production, Event and Rider relations, and Head Judge strategies.

Focus will also be on the introduction of the new WST 2.0 Halfpipe Judging System that will be implemented at the Elite Level events on the 2014/2015 WST Pro Series this season.
This year’s Pro Session contains a learning and education component, followed by a test component.

By attending the International Pro-Level Judge Session and fulfilling the criteria, participants will receive a “WST A Level Judge” certification – allowing them to be eligible to judge at International Level events (formerly WST 4 and 5Star events) and Head Judge at Regional and National level.

Once a “WST A Level Judge” certification is attained, a Judge is then certified to train judges in their region, in cooperation with their NSA affiliation. This education must be based on the provided WST Snowboard Judge Education material and a maximum of a “National C Judge” certification may be awarded at National level. Once a “National C Judge” judge fulfills the criteria, they will be awarded the “National B Judge” certification by WST.

Once the judges, or the NSA they are affiliated with, can prove judged events at International Pro Level, and they have fulfilled the criteria, and shown strong leadership and judging skills, they will receive the “WST International PRO Judge” certification – allowing them to be eligible to judge Elite Level events, and Head Judge International Level events.

WSF Banked Slalom Tour

WSF introduces one of the new features of the upcoming season; presenting a Banked Slalom Tour, aimed to span from a side of a continent to the other, an international tour based on the true spirit of snowboarding.

banked

Banked slalom combines the roots of snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding.

The past and the future meet in the banked slalom, the original discipline from where everything started. The WSF Banked Slalom Tour concept is to offer a platform and network within currently existing events and support to create new events. Banked slalom is an easy way to bring more attention to snowboarding, from the media to new consumers: it is an all-ages discipline, a low risk sport and people have a lot fun competing in contests that do not require professional skills.

WSF invites all national associations that already have a banked slalom contest on their schedule to be part of the tour and fill out the attached application form to participate.

WSF also invite all of you to organize a BS contest and get support from us on how to do it. We will give technical support to those who have never organized a BS event, but WSF will also support the pr and communication for those events that are already planned for the season 2014/15.

Please read the attached presentation and don’t hesitate to contact Meini, WSF event coordinator (events@worldsnowboardfederation.org)

WSD 2014: Saturday December 21

sticker2014_EXPORT_CMJN

WSF proudly announces the official launch of the WSD together with Outdoor Sports Valley (OSV, SnowSports Industries
America (SIA), CorePower Asia, and the TTR World Snowboard Tour.

WSD 2014
The fall season has arrived, and for the hundreds of WSD organizers this means preparing a mind-blowing experience for the 9th edition of World Snowboard Day. As usual, this event brings together riders from across the globe – from beginners to experts – to kick off the season, and to celebrate snowboarding and its unique subculture.
Sunday, December 21, 2014, promises good times and snowboard-sliding fun. So get your gear ready because at resort near you, things are about to rock! As usual, you will find a whole host of activities during the WSD: contests, beginner snowboard lessons, gear tests, demos, meet-and-greets with pro, drinks, concerts, video contests, and much, much more.
The only goal will be to have an unbelievably GOODTIME! Enjoy activities for free, open to anyone and everyone, in order to discover the joys of sliding on snow,to share a common passion for snowboarding, and above all else to enjoy one outrageously excellent day!
In 2013, World Snowboard Day hosted 114 events in 30 countries around the world. Since the launch of this international event eight years ago, more than 100,000 people have been able to discover the joy of sliding on snow and to ride to the rhythm of WSD. After 8 highly successful editions, this event has become a must for everyone who lists snowboarding as their passion.

What’s new for 2014
– Communication: this year, our creative team is busy working on a Punk Rock theme. Powdy, our rowdy mascot, will be planted in a “Freak Show” décor, giving our promotional tools a punchy, off-beat feel.
The World Snowboard Day website [www.world-snowboard-day.com] is already online and organizers can already start planning their event.
– The Ambassador: this year once again, a new pro-rider will take over the reins from the charismatic Xavier de Le Rue. Patience is a virtue, and we will reveal the mystery-individual’s name all in good time!
– Stay tuned for sneak previews and updates on the latest WSD news. Follow us on social media and join us on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Pinterest. Make note of the new hashtag [#snowboardday2014] to be an integral part of WSD the actual day of the event.

About WSD
Since 2006, World Snowboard Day has been a unique opportunity for the international snowboard community to promote the sport and its unique subculture by providing the general public with the opportunity to try a variety of activities for free. This event receives support from international organizations such as Outdoor Sports Valley(OSV) and World Snowboard Federation in Europe, SnowSports Industries America (SIA) in North America, CorePower Asia in Asia, and the TTR World Snowboard Tour.

South America Winter Season Wrap Up

1229994_853380544706157_1452177161165588998_n

Another winter season is going off in the south hemisphere and the South American snowboard communities have been able to show again all the potential of this continent. Chilean, Brazilian and Argentinian snowboards crews done a handful of pretty cools events.

The season started in São Paulo city with an indoor slopestyle event realized by the Brazilian Snowboard Federation.

10389356_853379838039561_2302262716370543922_n

As past few years, Chile hosted the South America Rookie Fest in Valle Nevado ski resort and for the really first official time, Argentina included one rookie oriented event in the WSF program, organized in the nice snowpark area of Cerro Catedral ski resort, nearly Bariloche city.

Amongst the bizarre winter weather conditions that afflict especially the Argentinian season with continuous warm temperatures, has been possible to organize almost all the 4 stops of the National tour.

The first three stops went down in perfect conditions and touched ski resorts like Chapelco, Cerro Catedral and La Hoya, where the Brazilians done their 2014 tour final.

10686756_854223347955210_136494853865343936_n

Unfortunately, due a very huge black-out in the district of Bariloche that hit the ski resort too, the Argentinian snowboard final suffered obviously contingencies and have forced the cancellation. Well, spring time is on and almost all ski resorts are close, or in the way to.

Well done to all that, keep it real!

WorldRookieTourFinal13_Ischgl_pic_raggieleonora_Bendik Gjerdalen_NOR

World Snowboard Tour 2.0
During this year’s General Assembly in Barcelona, the TTR members decided that the World Snowboarding Tour will restructure both the tour and its ranking system. The restructuring process has been keeping us very busy this summer to ensure all details are awarded the proper attention. The proposed transition to the new structure and its ranking system is scheduled for Nov 1st, 2014. All events that took place this season (2014/15), including all events after the Burton US Open in Vail, will be included in the new tour structure when the transition is made. During the development stage of the new 4-Level event structure, we have been working closely with the Global Snowboarders Alliance (GSA) Board to ensure that the riders have an input and a voice pertaining to any improvements that they would like to see in the tour. Currently we are still in the middle of talks with the current 6-Star level event organizers and IMG regarding a “Pro Series”. The new ranking system will continue to utilize the World Snowboarding Points Lists (WSPL) to determine seeding and rider competition eligibility.
